Synvisc For Bad Hip | Arthritis Information

Hello, I'm new here.....My mother is 86 years old and in overall very good health.  She has had some problems with her upper thigh and her doctor has told her that she has some arthritis in her hip.  He has proposed using Synvisc injections as an alternative to hip replacement surgery.  Has anyone out there tried this or know anyone who has?  Any information would be greatly appreciated.  We have been advised that Medicare will not cover this treatment (I guess they would prefer more expensive surgery??)  Thanks.

My mom is currently getting synvisc injections in her knees. she states her knees have not felt this good in years. she is scheduled to have a hip replacement as soon as her knees and shoulders are good enough to support her when using a walker while she recovers from hip surgery. i'm very interested in having her get the synvisc injections in her hips and understand it is approved outside the US but fda has not approved it for the US to use in the hips. Where are you from . What doctor is doing this. i would be willing to pay for treatment. this would be such a godsend. willing to travel outside US if needed. please reply as soon as possible. also mercy hospital in miami, FL did a clinical trials in 2004. i talked with them. studies was evidently postive. they said they thought synvisc would be approved for injections in the hips in the near future. they are very few side effects found with this medication according to their web site. thanks. pattycakes.
