Hey, I just read this article on CNN.com
I am putting the part about RA in this post, but ive included the link to the full article.

"The 33-year-old Texas woman who died last week was pregnant when she became ill, the article said. She had been diagnosed with asthma, rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis."

This is soooo sad.

What meds can you be on when you're pregnant?  Just mtx, right?

Methotrexate is an abortifacient.  So I seriously doubt she was using that med.............

Well, I see you are having trouble sleeping again, or you surely would have replied a bit more politely.

Which meds can somebody be on?

Pip
Wrong yet again...It's hockey night at my house

Go Red Wings!
Wrong. MTX is contraindicated in pregnancy and in both males and females who are attempting pregnancy. MTX is a known teratologic agent.

Well, science guru - surely you have a list of RA meds pregnant women can take?

Pip
Nope: no list. The decisions re: anticipating pregnancy, becoming pregnant, being pregnant, giving birth and medications for the treatment of RA and other autoimmune disorders is not made by or from a list. Rather, the decision is make with input and consideration from the RD, OB, + other appropriately educated and trained professions, and, of course, the patient and spouse.

Guru? Nope again, I am neither Hindi nor Buddhist, nor do I claim to have any special scientific understanding. I do however, know how to use several different internet search engines and being on MTX I have a strong foundation in the use of the medication in RA. Just as I have a strong foundation in other medications I have used in the past, am currently using, and if any new medication is suggested by my physicians I will then craft a strong foundation of understand regarding each of them.

Cheers, Shug
You are just hateful!  Why so nasty pip?
Oh lynn....thought better of you...Red Wings?
GO CAPS!!!!!

When I was pregnant, all I took was prednisone.  Many people have a disappearance of symptoms during pregnancy.  I didn't-stress of divorce caused awful flares.

She would have been off the mtx for months prior to conceiving.  My dr. had said at least 3 months prior to even trying.  Most likely, she was not on any immune system compromising meds since she had just given birth.
Sad story...

Hi guys, how sad, I really hope it burns itself out soon.  I have a wonderful GP and as my sisters are coming over form the UK in 3.5 weeks (yeehaaaa), she wants them to wear masks on the plane and if they have any sign of the flu, my GP has got me two vaccines, one for Liam and one for me as we are immune compromised, it cost and it is not a preventative just to be used if you come into contact with it, it is worht it even if I never take it just for peace of mind.
Oh lynn....thought better of you...Red Wings?

I like the Caps and I hope they beat the stuffing out of the Pens...But,  I'm a proud Red Wings fan to answer Pip's question..prednisone is generally the only med prescribed during pregnancy

Thank you Buckeye - I appreciate the answer.

Pip
for me the red flag disease she had that would cause complications with the flu was her asthmaI am pregnant otherwise I probably wouldn't know this but methotrexate should be stopped 3 months prior to pregnancy as it causes major birth defects.  Prednisone, and I have heard plaquenil but not sure on that one, is considered fairly safe during pregnancy.  I decided not to take anything and I have not had the so called pregnancy remission.  Maybe a little less pain but not much.http://www.hopkins-arthritis.org/ask-the-expert/disease-modifying-antirhe-005/pregnancy-and-enbrel-78.html

http://www.otispregnancy.org/hm/inside.php?id=40 A quick on-site search provided this discussion. Oh my; that's horrible. I heard she had underlying illness but I never heard what. I agree with Buck though that it was likely due to the athma.

That scares me.  I have been off Enbrel for over 2 months.  I was afraid to go back on it because of this swine flu thing but I finally gave in - as the pain was getting bad.  I hate beating up my immune system.

I just got my hair highlighted - love being blonde again - but I was feeling so paranoid around all those people.  I wanted it done because I have lost 25 pounds and off of pred. so I no longer look like I am on death's door.  I even bought some fake tanner.  Mother's Day - my family takes all the moms out to a very fancy surprise restaurant.  Last year I was too ill to go.  I am excited this year.  Last one I went to had champagne waterfalls and chocolate waterfalls with strawberries right at the table.  Year before that it was lobster and eggs benedict - a bit rich for me.  Anyway, it is good to be a Baxter on Mother's day.  My kids love it as they do not have to pay

Janie - I am such a worry wart - the vacines scare me

Anyway -  HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY IF I DO NOT TALK TO YOU BEFORE THEN.
