OT: Twilight | Arthritis Information

So... I have spent the last almost 3 days reading the first to books of the Twilight saga. I HATE to read, but I decided I would after my daughter read the first one and it was not much like the movie when we quizzed her on the book, but only from us watching the movie. And she kept getting the answers wrong. So... I decided to read them so we could quizz her on them.

Well... it seems I am hooked on them. I just got the last 2 books for Mother's Day from hubby. I guess he is happy to see me reading. I have never read a book within the 10 years we have been married. So... it was something new to him.

I actually read the 2nd book first and then went back and read the first book. I read each one in less than 12 hours for each book. I would read and read, and then when I would look at the clock or at the window it would already be time to wake everyone up. Well... that was for Friday anyways. I stayed up all day Friday, until we got to in-laws then I crashed on their couch. Then Friday night I started on the 2nd book and sat up all night and until a little after 9am when I finished the book and then I stayed awake until noon, and then went and took a nap until 5pm and then off to the in-laws I went.

I was already have a hard time getting sleep Friday and over the weekend, because my legs were doing their jerking and twitching crap again. So... I kept myself preoccupied with reading.

Now, I just cannot wait for the 2nd movie to come out later this year.

The books are really easy for me to read. They do not have many BIG words or words that make me seek a dictionary. That is the main reason I do not like to read, because I am not much on big, intillectual words... especially when there are easier words to pronounce and use in its place.

Anyone else read them?
joonie2009-05-10 16:27:06See?  I just said it a few weeks ago.  These books are too hard to put down and everyone ends up with a crush on Edward.  I feel sorry for all those teeny bop boys who can't get a date becuase their skin doesn't sparkle :)Heheheee! No cruch here, just wishing I found a guy like that when I was a teenager! I kept telling my daughter, that there are no boys that are like Edward, so do not be disappointed. She thought I was talking about him being a vampire, and she said I know there is no such thing as vampires. I said yeah that too. Then I told her... do not expect for a boy to act like edward, he is a one in a billion kinda person. Then hubby said yeah.

Man... I am just hanging around here until 8pm, then I am off to read Eclipse.

I am also reading them because someone told my MIL that the books contained inappropriate reading for my daughter. At first the person said it was way too seductive for her to read. But by then she had read the first book. So... when I got her the 2nd book I stayed up all night to read it to make sure there was nothing inappropriate for her to read. Which there was not.

then I went back to read the 1st book to see if that was the book they were talking about that had the sedcutiveness they were talking about. But nope... none. Nothing that I was consider inappropriate fro her to read or even seductive. I mean... after reading the 1st book, it made the movie look way more seductive than the book made it out to be.

Then MIL told hubby last night that she was told the 3rd book had some REALLY inapproriate reading. So... hubby bought me the last 2 so I could read them, since he knows how much I enjoyed the first 2 books. And also so I could read them before daughter got a chance to read them, to make sure they were fit for her.

So... if it is true about the 3rd book being inappropriate for her, then I will have her skip to the 4th book and give her a summary of the 3rd book. I know she will be crushed if she cannot read the 3rd book, but... if I will not let her watch Friday the 13th movies, then I guess I cannot let her read an inappropriate book.

So... I am off to begin Eclipse.

Edited for typoShe is 11. She is not the only one in her class reading the Twilight saga and the kids are a year younger than her. That is why I gave in to let her read the books, because I figured if some of the kids in her grade were reading them then no harm. PLUS, I heard they were aimed toward kids her age. Which is evident by the lack of BIG words, and complex sentancing and everything is pretty straight forward and not much trying to decipher what, what meant.

So... poor kid might not get to read the last 2 books it sounds like. Oh well... she can read them when she is 12 LOL!

I already have a strike against me by the in-laws for even letting her read a book that contained vampires and werewolfs!
3rd one gets a bit more graphic-the 4th is by far the most questionable. Still-good books. Our middle school only checks the 4th one out to 8th graders with a parent note.I have the first one but haven't read it yet.... It's in the teen genre...  I would think that 12-13 may be appropriate for the two initial ones... IDK about the other books... I do know that alot of my "much older ;) " friends are loving them.Well, I just broke the news to my daughter about not getting to read the last 2 books. I done some research of them online and well. Many say the 4th is the one. but the 3rd book is almost not suitable. I told her I would read the 3rd book and decide if she could read it or not. And I told her that she might not get to read the 4th book for a long time. She seemed upset about it, but I told her would tell her about all she wanted to know about how it turned out and all.

Oh and she said she did not care about the yucky romantic stuff, she just like the action.

I would have at least thought, turned. Just turn her already....is what you should be saying! LOL!
Have any of you read 'The Host' by the same author? If you're into sci fi type stuff (you know vampires/aliens etc) then I can recommend it. I've read it twice (a 6 month gap in between, husband cant understand why you'd want to read anything more than once!) but I liked the story so much. After reading that I bought the first 3 of the twilight series, and by the time I'd finished them there was just a little wait for the 4th. They are all out on loan to friends at work at the moment. They are teen genre, and if your daughter is not into the deep romantic connection then I'd let her read the other 2 Joonie. There nothing particularly horrible when you consider the whole premise is vampires fighting vampires teaming up with weirwolves! I'm looking forward to the second film coming out. Hope your legs are feelling better today. The Host was really good. Took me a few chapters to get into it--strange premise. No, but sounds good for you.Mel....lol!  Bella is exceptionally annoying, especially the third book.  As much as I enjoyed the story, there were huge portions that I skipped over.  Too repetative.
