Does anyone suffer with a keloid? My daughter had her appendix out in January but experiences quite a bit of pain in the area. The scar looked unusual so I took her to see the doctor. It turns out she has what they call a Keloid and has to go back to see the surgeon who operated on her.

Yeah right, it's probably on you, why don't you post pictures of it Prickcushion?

eta: ever heard of Google?  Research it lazy fat ass.

Im not into posting my fifteen year old stomach on here thanks...now run along please

Just do the research yourself instead of trying to get attention for yourself.  We're sick of your insanity. Why don't you write another "Goodbye" post and get the hell out of here?because I have no intention of going anywhere and  if anyone has had a keloid then its better to get first hand info rather than reading something that has come out of a medical txt book. If you are expecting me to leave the board then you are so wrong....go bark up another tree pups.

Sorry your daughter has to go back to the doctors. I hope you find your answers and it isn't anything serious.

Thank you, i appreciate your thoughts[QUOTE=Mrs Pincushion]because I have no intention of going anywhere and  if anyone has had a keloid then its better to get first hand info rather than reading something that has come out of a medical txt book. OMG are you serious?  We ALL know it's just a matter of time before you play poor, pitiful, little me and post another goodbye speech, and I'll be here Thats nice of you...so glad you are playing the faithful puppy dog, do you roll over and play dead? sniff and scratch your butt too?   XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXHey Pin. Keloids tend to be more pronounced on darker complexions. There is a product that we use here. Cannot remember the name but it sticks to the scar and must be worn for an extended period of time. It is made of silicon and over time, the thickness of the scar will shrink down from prressure of the dressing. It is about 28 dollars a sheet but lasts a long long time. Let me know and i'll stick a sheet of it in the bottle and float it across the pond to you. Hugs. It's silicone, not silicon.Cortisone creams and injections can also help prevent keloid formation, but definitely do so under the care and guidance of a doctor.  Have you consulted a plastic surgeon?  They are experts in preventing and getting rid of scars.  If it's deemed "medically necessary" it is often covered by insurance, at least here in the States. I know from my own personal experience that my appendectomy scar is quite wide because I had peritonitis and it was not sealed by staples or stitches...... but had to heal from the inside out to prevent locking infection inside....

did her scar have to heal in that manner too?  I have some portions whereby it is almost a half an inch wide.......

never bothered me... it's not like I wear bikini's after having children!
Babs, no she had stitches..the keloid is about 7cm long and about 1 cm wide, its very raised, it looks as if something had tunnelled through it. It causes her a great deal of pain. She also isnt bothered by showing her scar but its the discomfort of her jeans or clothing sitting on it.Good luck.
