This one caught my eye because I'm also seronegative....There are more questions and answers, just click on the link

Q. I have been diagnosed with seronegative RA. I have pain and swelling primarily in my wrists, hands and feet. Lately, I have noticed a pain in my right hip that occurs without warning after sitting, standing or at times while I am walking. It feels almost as if my hip "gives out" or dislocates. Could this be related to the RA? Since it is not a constant pain or ache, but rather sporadic, I never considered it to be part of this disease.

A. It is difficult to be entirely certain what is responsible for your right hip problem, but since RA can affect virtually any joint, I think there is a more than reasonable chance that RA is causing your problem. In fact, seronegative RA has a slightly greater tendency to involve the hips that seropositive RA. However, by far the most common form of arthritis, which might also explain the hip problem, is osteoarthritis (OA) – and yes, people can get both RA and OA. The development of pain after sitting or standing is very characteristic of hip OA. Finally, if by chance you have ever been treated with corticosteroids (like prednisone) for your RA, another possibility is a form of arthritis affecting the hip called osteonecrosis. An X-ray might be helpful to determine which of these forms of arthritis might be causing the hip pain.

I've been considering seeing an orthopedic because of my hip pain..... bending more than three times gives me unbelieveable pains...  on the outside of the hip.. in the groin of the hip.. in the front... all over.

IDK which kind of arthritis is causing the issues.......but it is one of my most consistently painful joints....

I would urge you to do that Babs.  I had hip pain, mostly in the groin and it was affecting my mobility.  I went to my RD and had x-rays...Nothing showed up, but because of the amount of pain I was having he scheduled me for an MRI.

It turned out that had sustained a fracture to my hip.  Long term prednisone use, low vitamin D and an earlier injury to that leg, plus RA all contributed to that...I also, unfortunatley developed avascular necrosis in the area where my hip fractured.

See an ortho...get the pain checked out...It's not worth it to wait!

Babs, I agree with Lynn, get it checked.  There are many issues that can cause hip pain and it's not just arthritis.  I have bursitis both hips and legs and am trying to get them under control.  For me the pain is night pain, when I sleep on my side.  Get thee to a doctor!!  Lindybumping for good information
