Vitamin D3 May Protect Against Nonmelanoma Skin Cancer

MONTREAL, May 13 -- Higher serum levels of vitamin D3 were associated with a decreased risk of nonmelanoma skin cancer, researchers reported here.

Serum vitamin D3 levels of 30 ng/ml or more were associated with a 45% lower rate of basal cell carcinoma, compared to the rate at the lowest vitamin D3 level, Jean Tang, M.D., from Stanford University Medical Center, reported at the Society for Investigative Dermatology meeting.

"There was also a trend towards reduced incident skin cancers in this group over the five year study period," she explained.

OK.  kick me if I'm not getting this right....... if your D3 levels are 30 or higher, you can enjoy more of the sun's benefits without worry of melanoma?  ......   IDK.. I slept really poorly last night and my brain function will require two more cups of coffee today  [/QUOTE]

Nonmelonoma..

A subgroup of 1,108 study participants provided self-reported information about basal cell carcinoma at baseline, and then five years later.
