How do you feel first thing in the morning? | Arthritis Information

I just think it is odd. My hips hurt every morning when I first get up. They are just very sore feelliing. It is uncomfortable. It goes away after about an hour. It is bylateral so it isn't the way I sleep. You can not sleep on both sides enough to cause a pressure pain. Anyway it is just odd. It has just been going on for months. Maybe my hips have morning stiffness? It is possible that your hips are experiencing morning stiffness.  I have morning stiffness for about 1 hr.  also, if I sit down for longer than 20 mins or so, I'm stiff when I get up.  I have noticed that I'm better in the summertime.

My first sensation is painful hands and wrists when I throw back the covers. I hate it. I always feel irritated. It's like RA is an unwanted companion saying I'm here! When I get out of bed I'm slightly stiff in the knees but as soon as I start walking it eases right up.First thing in the morning is RUFF!!  I sit on the side of the bed and do about 15 minutes worth of streching and motor moves before I even stand on my feet.  It's helping and I'm just trying to keep my muscle active and moving. By about 2pm in the afternoon.  I feel much better.

I'm stiff for a bit when I first wake up and like Phats, if I've been sitting for a while.  It doesn't take much to lose it though so I think mine is just cuz I'm 45 years old.  Not exactly fresh out the nest, if ya know what I mean.

My hips hurt. It was for me bursitis. I got injections. Helped greatly with the pain. Hope you get relief soon.

I do exercises in my bed every morning.  Mostly with my arms and legs and just long enough to get the blood flowing.  I think that the warm blood on our joints is just enough to make rising out of bed worth it.  Works well for me.   Getting out of bed is tough. Stuff is extra-sticky and hurty usually. It takes quite a while for my feet and knees to stop screaming at me once I get going. It lasts anywhere from an 1 hour or 2 to all day. No rhyme or reason to the length the stiffness hangs out. As often as I can, I try to take all my meds followed by a hot shower to help speed up the process. [QUOTE=milly]I just think it is odd. I sometimes have hip and shoulder issues (left side only) when I wake up in the morning, and I can almost always trace it to contorted sleeping positions.  I have OA in that hip, and a nagging old shoulder injury.  These problems are magnified with my overactive tossing and turning while I sleep. It sure seems that all of us have stiffness and pain 1st thing. It just reminds me to take meds and prepare mentally for what the day may bring. My feet feel like glass that will break any minute. It last for several hours but slowly but surely I will come around. I have such fatigue that it is worst than the pain sometimes. That gets me worse than anything... makes me irratable, frustrated not to be able to do the simpliest tasks. Hot shower, a little stretching, relaxation techniques help somewhat. LauraYep, but not all pain and stiffness is RA.  If you're having ongoing pain and stiffness that isn't helped by your RA regimen, definitely talk to your rheumatologist.  Maybe your treatment needs adjustment, or maybe some of your issues are due to something other than RA. You know Milly, I have some morning pain and stiffness, but I no more than get that first cup-a and its gone.  My major RA pain is a night thing... by evening, I am in so much pain I can barely move!  It is all I can do to take a hot shower and drag myself to bed.  (Though, I will sit here and put my 2$ [inflation] in with my hot tea).

Evenings and Nights are like I am paying for every tiny thing I did all day!  Some mornings are better than others; but then, I think that is true for people without autoimmune diseases as they age.

Lincc mentioned not being fresh out of the nest (great descriptor!), and as I have almost 20 years on her freshness date, I can account much of my morning stiffness to that cause

There is no doubt in my mind when RA stiffness sets in, it is difficult to describe, but to paraphrase Potter Steward, I know it when I experience it.

Best wishes for a morning without stiffness or pain, Shug
things are better than they had been..... I use to feel like I was walking on broken glass .......
now.. it feels like bad shoes...... til I warm up a bit...
most things only take about 10 minutes to get "going" for me now.... whereas it use to take almost an hour........
I hope for all of us our days get better and better.
When I was in my "so-called clinical remission" I had no morning stiffness.  Now, I'm stiff and aching for about a half an hour.  My toes and feet have that walking on pebbles feeling, my knee hurts and my hip hurts.  Then in the evening it all starts again.   I think we're all different symptom wise.  It's amazing to me how the same disease can affect us all so differently.  LindyOh I get hit in the evening also. Last night was the worst I had been all week. I totally lost my magic pixie dust. That is my Lyrica, muscle relaxer and even a pain pill didn't seem to help much. I am sure they did help some scince I was not screaming. I was limping rather badly. My shoulder shot wore off. My left knee and left foot kept from sleeping. I guess we will have that from time to time. RD calls me in two days. Maybe he knew that my pixie dust would quit working.Maybe it is the Nor easter. Very misserable weather. Before enbrel, I had to set my alarm an hour before I needed to get up so I could take my pain meds.  I could barely move without giving them time to kick in first.I feel like not even getting out of bed.  My stiffness in several joints, specifically the fingers, sticks around all day long and doesn't let up much.   I also have a lot of stiffness and pain in my neck, ankles, toes and wrists.  The hips are stiff but that's just from the connective tissue in there since I have titanium/ceramic hip joints now.
