I've been suffering from back pain over the last few months; more than normal.

Susan~

There always seems to be some debate amoung all of the members at this and other sites I visit. Some insist that RA does not affect your back....but my doctors believe it does in my case.

In fact I saw an orthopedic back specialist last week at the recommendation of my RD and he took one quick look at my x-rays and said that's exactly what it is. I mentioned that some seem to think it doesn't affect the back; and he said that's absolutely not the case....and I'm living proof. He said that it usually takes years to actually show itself in the back. It starts in the smaller joints such as the hands, feet....but can progress into the hips; and back over time.

The doctor ordered an MRI; which I had on Thursday of last week so we can see the extent of the damage.....also the damage from degenrative disk disease. That is very common as well especially as people age. That's very common.

I wish I could tell you something that helps with the pain....but I'm suffering through my daily activities myself right now. I work full time and by the time I get home in the evenings all I can do is lay in bed. Even sitting by the end of the day is painful. I take tramadol and muscle relaxers once I'm home and laying in a position that takes the pressure off my spin seems to help. I also use a heating pad about every evening....but I think that's gotten to be more of a comfort item more than anything else. I'm not sure it really helps anything. I like it though.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks, Lovie for the info.  I am taking 800 mg of Ibuprofen and that seems to help some.

Yes; over the years I've discovered that you can buy the huge bottles of generic advil at places like Sam's or Walmart and take 4 at a time. (Much Cheaper and last longer)It's the same as the prescription strength. It helps me a great deal during the day....and helps keep my head clear so I can consentrate on my daily task.

If I learn anything new that I think might help you manage better I'll be sure to contact you right away.

I know how hard it is to deal with.

Hang in there.
