I NEED A TOOTH FAIRY | Arthritis Information

The dental saga continues........The tooth that had a root canal in February now needs to be extracted!! made later in the summer after my gums have healed.

I'm off all RA meds until later in the summer or the fall.  The oral surgeon and my dentist have confirmed that the immuno suppressants have worsened the gum disease.  I used to be able to control it with cleanings every 6 months and good oral hygiene but in the last year nothing has worked.  I'm prone to it in the best of circumstances.

I have the tooth extracted tomorrow and the first of the quadrants planed.  I NEED A TOOTH FAIRY.  I don't do well at the dentist  and am stressed to the max.  I've tried every stress technique I know and nothing has helped, so I've resorted to taking a tranquilizer.  The first time in my life I've ever taken a tranq. and I was pushed to this by a dentist!!  My primary said that I needed them; my husband talked to the primary and said I needed them;  I didn't think I was that bad, but after I took one I realized how badly I needed them.

I just hope that RA holds off for awhile.  I had just restarted MXT and Sulfasalzine 2 weeks ago and now I'm off everything again.  The end.  Lindy
{{{LINDY}}}, I send you my very best wishes for a quick dentist visit and a non-complicated recovery from the extraction and then from all the other procedures.

I can offer all my empathy as I am a white-knuckler at ever the most innocuous of dental visits. Take the tranquilizer!
Oh Lindy...I hope it all works out for you.
I have to go for a root canal or extraction next week...and like you, I don't do well with that sort of thing.
Good luck..I'll be thinking about you!
I too HATE the dentist. They have to give me the gas just to get out of the car!! I think I'd pass out just thinking about all you have to have done.

Will be thinking of you tomorrow.....good luck. I hope it's over quickly and you'll soon be on the road to recover.
Awwwww Lindy!  If I had a tooth fairy in my pocket, you could sure have her!  I hope the tranqs help you find your happy place in the dental chair and you find the mantra to help you through.  I use to work for a periodontist in my past life and it is still a rough ride for me when I am in the chair.

There is one little trick the perio would tell his patients and he used occasionally in the chair;  You know the webbing between thumb and forefinger?  If you use a small ice pac and massage there, it dulls the pain in the gum.

I know, I know... Waddie is out there!  waddie2009-05-19 10:03:06oh Lindy...  sorry you are having so much troubles w/ the teeth!!   I hate having my teeth planed!!  ugh ouch..   I try to be a very good person and take extra care but with SS, it is never good.......

Hope it is ALL pain=free!!!  *crossingfingers*

You will feel so much better when it is all done.Best of luck to you LinB- I hate root canals most of all. I am going to the dentist tomorrow to find out about this tender tooth and lump on the gum underneath it that has been plaguing me since Dec. My dentist said it has all the earmarks that the tooth is dying and needs root canal but the xray doesn't support it. Originally he told me the lump was cellulitis and put me on antibiotics. I had to go off my MTX and went into a 2 month flare. The lump got a little flatter but the tooth stayed tender and now the lump got bigger again....

Anyone who is interested take a look at this: www.icnr.com/cs/cs_23html I am bringing this in to my dentist to see what he thinks. It's about a woman with RA that had some kind of dental infection that is not picked up on xrays. When it was fixed all her RA symptoms went away. I think it might be bogus. They don't spell out what the procedure is and I tried to email them and call with no response.
WTB, best to you too tomorrow!  Are you still off your meds?  Dental issues effect our over all health in so many ways.

I will try to fly a tooth fairy your way too!  oh honey.. that link is dead........  at least I can't access it from work.

Hope all goes well w/ you too.

I am having a tooth looked at tonight at 5:15....   one that's been bothering me  a bit when I bite down.

I'd like some tooth fairy dust too, waddie, if you have any to spare........ Oh, I plan on taking the drugs.  It took a lot for me to admit that I needed some help but I'm glad I did.   Thanks for the good advice from everyone and I'm still looking out my window for that tooth fairy.  Maybe she's disguised as a raven.  There's been one sitting on my outdoor table and chairs all morning.  LindyI absolutely despise going to the dentist....I just had a tooth extracted in January and to be honest, it wasn't that bad.

Hang in there....I hope things go well for you Lindy It is agravating when you just put money and time into a tooth and it doesn't take. Arggh! I had three tooth extractions last year. I tried fixing one. It didn't work. Then they wanted me to fix the last one. I was sick physically from it. I knew it needed to come out. Long story short it did come out. It was abcessed. I feel so much healthier after finally getting it all done.just got in from the dentist..

I have a weird space between two teeth... more than you want, according to my dentist.. teeth may have shifted.. he doesn't know... but I have to have two fillings 're-done' to make this space less...

You see, flossing doesn't help since the space is so big that I am not getting the sides of the teeth clean and things are laying in the gap.....

I go back on 6/2...... in the meantime, he said do a peroxide swish twice a day..... ugh blech yech......... I will add a little good mouthwash to make it tastier........

Hi Babs, not such a bad appt. for you.  I've got those spaces and need 3 fillings to take care of them.  The same thing as you, but they're going to wait to do the fillings later in the summer when I have the crown done.  When you're on the biologics dental problems come up fast and hard, even though you take good care of your teeth.  Lindy LinB2009-05-19 16:58:23Glad your appt. wasn't too bad Babs. Did he say swish with straight peroxide? I was trying that for awhile for this lump but it's still here.
We'll see what he says- thanks for the fairy dust waddie!
The link is dead? Must be a crock- I'm interested to see what my dentist makes of it.
I will keep tapping that fairy on the butt to get her in gear and dust you guys up good!  She may be a raven Lindy, in one of her darker moods?   She just might be a raven, I'm in a dark mood myself.  Lindy
ww LinB.. cheer up!!  things will get better.

wantto...... he said I could swish w/ straight peroxide..but that I can add a "dab" of a good tasting minty wash to it for tastiness......
babs102009-05-20 06:23:18Babs- that peroxide dries your mouth right out! It does taste awful too- but my teeth seemed whiter and they are tetracycline stained. i sure don't need my mouth to be dryer....... I'll have to take the salagen more often... UGH... whiter is GOOD!!  I don't know what kind of toothpaste you girls are using, but I've been using Arm and Hammer peroxide + baking soda toothpaste and it does a wonderful job of cleaning and keeping my mouth fresh and teeth white.  I've got a couple areas where my gums tend to get inflamed and it hasn't been nearly as bad since I've been using the Arm and Hammer.  My dentist is always amazed at how little tartar buildup is on my teeth, especially since I only go to the dentist once every few years. JR- do you find that toothpaste to have a "salty" flavor? My SIL works for Church & Dwight so I have great access to A&H products but I didn't care for it. Or maybe it was the gum that had the salty flavor....
JR- do you find that toothpaste to have a "salty" flavor? Yep - that's the baking soda. It's a little strange at first but I quickly got used to it - especially after I realized how much cleaner and fresher my mouth and teeth were!  Morning "dragon breath" is all but eliminated if I use the Arm and Hammer the night before.  Challenge yourself to use it for one whole tube and then decide.  You can put up with the odd taste for 2 or 3 minutes a day. awww.. Shug.. she's the sweetest....
There you go, LinB.. Hope she helps you!!

Thanks, Jas.. I'm going to try this !!
Shug, you devil, you brought tears to my eyes - damn I can't see the screen!!!!

I'm such a baby when it comes to the dentist.  I guess everyone has their Achilles heel and mine's the dentist.  I'd probably handle it all much better if there wasn't so much going on at once.  I really appreciate the support, sniffle, sniffle.  Lindy
Jas, I used to use Arm and Hammer but for some reason got away from it.  I've been using one of the teeth whitener tooth pastes.  Am now using Bexident from the dentist and Sensodyne.  Once this is over I may try A&H again.  Thanks.

Babs, I've always used a diluted peroxide rinse.  When I started MXT my dentist said to use a peroxide rinse and it would keep away mouth sores and he was right.  In the last 5 years I haven't had any mouth sores but once.  Lindy

Tissue? Cup of tea? Shot of tequilla?

Of course you would be better able to deal with this if it was the only thing going on in your life. But your quota of straw was filled weeks ago.

PS Have you scheduled the sonogram on your breast?

Shug, yep and silly me it wasn't a sonogram; it was an ultrasound
but damn it I'm going to golf inbetween all the crappy appts.!!!!! And I'm going to make Margaritas every night for a week and I refuse to think about the appt. with the surgeon until we leave San Diego.    Lindy

You go, Lindy!!

I will hold you close in my thoughts during this tough time.

Thanks guys.  It's always good to have a back up fairy.  Doesn't sound good either, but you know what I mean.  Have sore mouth issues this morning, going to golf if it feels better but then again I may let Stan golf by himself.  We need some away time from one another.  Too much closeness if you know what I mean.  Love him dearly and he's my angel but .........

Snow, you made me chuckle early this morning

Babs, you're my cheerleader, thanks.

Shug, you're always there with the tequila

Thanks.  Lindy

Hate the dentist too!!!!!!!!!
Shug, you're always there with the tequila
A friend brought me a quarter-bushel of strawberries about an hour ago, I have some limes, triple sec, and a blender. Strawberry Margarita’s will be served for luncheon, along with shrimp tacos complimented by mango/pineapple/chilpote salsa. I’ll have Bob start a fire in the chimnera to take the gloom of this leaden sky and chilly-temperature day and it will be a party. It seems we could all use a good party!

Shug, I'll definately be there in spirit.  I made fish tacos the other night with Margaritas and cuke and radish salad.  Didn't have a fire in the chimnera because it's been as hot as 106 degrees.  Even the pool is too warm.  Enjoy your lunch.  Lindy

I'll bring a piñata for us to whack that's shaped like a pill bottle, filled with Dove chocolates.
I love it and I'd whack every Dove out of it and eat them up, just like the Mexican children at Christmas.  I might share.  Lindy
I have a piñata pole and bats. A pill bottle just seems to deserve to be bashed, again and again.

It started to rain so a fire is absolutely vital. I also have a collection of shawls and scarfs in a big basket by the verandah doors, just in case.
heck.. my bags are packed.. I"m coming to the pinata, chiminera and marguerita party!!!  woot!! It is now official a party!
Hate the dentist too!!!!!!!!!
