golfing success | Arthritis Information

Well, successful for me, anyway. I've only been playing for a couple years and am terrible at it. Yesterday was the first time I played since I was diagnosed, started on medication, and had everything go bad on me after coming home from an Arizona vacation, which was the last time I felt good.

To my joy, I am no worse than I was before! My shoulder didn't bother me a bit, my feet and hands didn't hurt any worse than they ever do, and this morning I'm not the least bit crippled up (any more than I am any morning). I am so relieved, I will be able to play this summer, and with any luck continue to improve. I probably won't be able to walk the golf course, which I loved to do last year, but maybe my feet will get better.

Such a pleasure to know I can continue with a new hobby and not have to give it up when I just started. Golf is a big part of husband's life, I always said I would take it up when my kids were grown, and that time is now. Thanks to everyone who sent me tips and encouragement. I've got different grips and some wrist supports on the way, which will help too.Yay for you. I live on a golf course and never golfed. Well once my husband wanted me to try so badly that I did..it was not pretty..So now I am an expert cart driver..lol

Good for you Blue!
Bluehour!! That's wonderful.. one of the saddest things is taht this disease robs us of thing we love to do...... I'm glad you can still golf!!

I hope your score keeps getting lower!!
Bluehour, One of my greatest achievements was to be able to walk and golf 9 holes.  I did it 8 weeks after my total knee.  I think I had something to prove and don't walk the course any longer, but I still play.  I'll walk it if it's a nice, flat course.  In the winter I golf with a group of women and several of them are older and have had RA for years but they're such good golfers.  They're my inspiration.  They don't look very pretty when they hit the ball but boy do they have accuracy and strength.  There's hope for us.  Keep enjoying the game.  LindyBlue, it is so good to hear how you can have this disease and still enjoy life!  I don't golf, but it seems such a great way to get out and enjoy the day and get some exercise too!

Way to go TigerBlue!
Well done Blue hour!! keep it up But do not over do it.Good for you!!!Snow, you're so right about being able to share a sport with your spouse.  We have such a good, goofy time when we golf.  One minute we're serious and quiet and the next we're goofy.  I did send DH off by himself to golf.  I got up this morning and my mouth hurts from the dental work yesterday and I didn't think I'd be very good company.  I don't even feel like driving the cart.  I've always thought I'd like to try trap shooting.  DH has done it before and I thought it would be fun.  Tell me more about it.  You can PM me.  Lindy

Yeh for you, too.

Girls!  I think it sounds like great fun!!  trap and skeet.. my husband was a champ long long tiem ago!!  I have wanted to try for so long..

Aside:  it is expensive... cost of shells and ammo has increased greatly in recent times.... but you can buy a reloader and do your own as my husband has ..........
