With all ur suggestion I went to family doctor again.  I explained her the cough problem.  she got a x-ray done.  My blood reports results are good/bad.  What shocked me my homoglobine went down from 129 to 95 in 2 months while taking iron.  any body else experienced something like this with RA?  MY kidney and liver function are fine.  My ESR is 35.  She told me ESR is not good news.

My dr. is not happy with my rheumy because she does not send my family dr any consult notes.  She asked me if I am taking planqueil with mtx.  I told her no.  She is sending me another rheumy Are you taking the iron at the same time as an antacid or calcium supplement?  Do you regularly take an acid-reducer (prevacid, prilosec, zantac, pepcid, etc)?  All these things can drastically reduce your iron absorption.  What did the doc say about the iron level? Glad to hear you are going to another RD. I hope they can help you to feel much better.

not sure what is first w/ the lower iron  -- the low iron or RA?

.. I'm a little on the low side... but not drastically so... and suffer from RLS (do you?)
I know I had the RA first since I've had it since I was a child.. but I wonder about others.
glad you like your GP

Veenu, >>HERE<< you indicate you have chronic anemia and beta thalassemia. Isn't labile hœmoglobin one of the features of B thalessemia? Is your PCP working closely with your hœmotologist and is your RD involved in that care as well as your RA issues?

I have anemia of chronic illness which definitely came after RA. I can experience what seems to me to be some significant shifts in hœmoglobin and WBC from one month to the next.

Veenu, I am glad you are getting a new RD, definitely  sounds like the right thing to do!  I had a serious low iron spell but I was still having a period.

Just a curious aside, does anyone with low iron cook with an iron skillet?
Jasmine Rain  I am taking panzpprine for GERD.
Spleunker,  I have seen when I get flare I get low iron too somehow it depletes my iron.  I know about chronic anemia and thalsamia I know but during flare it goes down no matter what.
Is there anybody whose ESR is 35 or close to it?  I want to know, if with ESR 30 plus are u guys have flare and how bas is ur flare

Which is why it is so important that all your doctors work closely together. If your PCP is treating you in one way, your RD in another, and your hæmotoligst in yet a third way your body just might not respond to any treatment.

At least sometimes a component of depleted iron sources with RA is lack of folic acid, but then sometimes it is something else entirely. The best source of information regarding you specifics are your physicians, working as a team.

At the lab I use normal ESR is 20 for males, 30 for females. My last ESR was 68, but I am not in a flare.
