Anyone with similiar symptoms? | Arthritis Information

 

Good Evening!  I am new to this site and just trying to find some answers.  I am on MTX and Enbrel.  I have been doing fairly well except for the last few weeks;  I had a really bad flare and have just started taking prednisone (started 2 days ago- but still waiting for it to really kick in!).  I'm not sure what caused the flare-up.  I had to skip a week due to the flu, and then my brother died suddenly a few weeks ago.  So my guess is both !    My question has to do with my symptoms; my fingers are really stiff and it seems I have some swelling in my joints (top joints in my fingers).  I feel so stiff and sore  all over that I walk like I am 90 years old!  It seems as if this flare is worse than any I have had.  I also have concerns that the Enbrel is no longer effective for me.   

Your right, both of those can cause a flare.   I've been sick this week and have had more than the normal amount of stress at work and it caused one in me too. My doc says that is very normal,along with lots of other things that can do it. My chiropractor actually recommended using a parifin hot wax for my flare ups, the intense heat seems to help some of his patients. Sounds nice! Hang in there, I hope it ends soon.

AllymomGigi, first off call your RD and let them know you're flaring.  How much Pred are you on?  They might adjust your MXT.  You might want to get an appt. also.  Stress and infection can certainly make you flare, especially if you have to stop your meds.  Keep us posted on your progress. Lindy
