RA and Shingles | Arthritis Information

I have RA, OA, Meniere's Disease and kidney stones. I am now going from an ultasound to rule out gallstones and have a MRI scheduled tolook for MS. On top of everything, I now have shingles. They are unrelenting and extremly painful.

Question... Has anyone else had shingles? (more susceptible if you have a comprised immune system). If so, did you stay on your RA meds? What about MTX? (injections?). My GD wants me to discuss with my RD and I have a call in to him. Any comments would be appreciated!!

Three years ago I was a totally healthy person. This is so unbelievable. I have had everything imaginable in the past 3 years. I am just trying to take one day at a time.

 Hello Barb,

How are you doing today.

Oh God YES...and I am so sorry that you have Shingles.

It was 2 years before I was DX'd with RA, I wasn't on any drugs for RA so I didn't have to worry about the RA meds. interfering with the medications for Shingles.

From what I have read, they may take you off the MTX.  I am thinking that they will.  Shingles is not an easy disease to have to go through and then add it to RA and many problems could happen plus I have found that most people don't know that Shingles can cause some internal problems too.

Please make sure that you do exactly what the Doctor suggest and take all the medication that he/she gives you.  Shingles is nothing to play around with.

I know your feelings well...I to was a very healthy person till I had Shingles at 55 and then some very major health problems at 57...I am just now beginning to catch my breath from all that has happened health wise since then...

I wish you good luck on your MRI and hope that everything goes well for you.

My sister had shingles while on metho. Her doctor took her off of it until the shingles cleared up. your doctor might take you off of metho. One day at a time all the time. Best wishes.

I have never had it but know that it is very painful- my aunt had them and she was 80 when she got them...The only time in her life she had ever been sick- So be prepared to have to stop some of your RA drugs...as you need to build your system up...I hope you stay in touch and let us all know how you are doing.

Hi Barb,

I am SO sorry to hear about all that you are going
through right now.

I have had shingles-several times unfortunately. I'm
not sure what the best thing to do is regarding the ra
meds, but I've stopped the mtx myself during the
week of flare ups.

So I really don't have much medical advice to offer,
just wanted you to know that I understand and
sympathize with the pain you are going through, and
hope it ends soon.

I hope that your MRI goes well and that no additional
problems will be found.

Bless you!
