The ligament that crosses across my first finger joint moves to the right and I'm having trouble grasping a pencil etc. Anyone have this problem? Is this the first sign of joint destruction? I had that problem last year.  I am a techer lol.  I could not pick a pencil and finger won't bend at all.  My wrist was swelled up like crazy.  Dr. suggested a hand brace that helped me including naprxyn.  Physical thearapy and putting my fnger in wax helped me too.  I hope u will get better soon. Jodi, yes, it happens on a routine basis with me.  Several of my fingers will lock in place if I over extend them and I have to use the other hand to bend them.  Makes my jewelry making even more difficult due to not being able to grasp properly.  My fingers and wrist are on their own schedule no matter what dmard or biologic I'm taking.  I was supposedly in clinical remission for a year but the latest MRI of my hands and wrist showed an increase in damage and erosions and not a decrease.  I'm going to try a wrist brace when I golf.  LindyI have it as well. It is on my right middle finger. That finger has some bone missing to the far right, near my ring finger. The ligament falls down to the right when I try to make a fist. It is not painful, it is just annoying because I have a hard time extending my finger back out.

Joonie, you're a pathetic attention seeker.  Everytime someone states they have something you mysteriously have it to.  Ugh!Does anyone know if the uncooperative ligaments are a sign of damage to the joint itself? My Rd wants me to try mtx again if I have erosions and I don't want to deal with the side effects, especially when mtx doesn't make me feel any better.

Hi jode!

Not sure about your question. But the picture below is what my middle finger looks like when I make a fist.
