So how bad can all this RA get? | Arthritis Information

I have tried many meds for this RA and Enbrel did help but ran out of insurance...........many people have. I was just wondering how at risk I am not being on the medication and if this RA ever ends or if it just continues to take over and ruin your body.

Welcome little whisper. I don't think you have an option of not taking meds. It's upsetting to me when people cannot afford their needed medicine. Have you tried contacting the drug company? I hear they will help you. Can your doctor give you samples?Thankyou.

I already owe my Rheumatologist so much money and he never returns my calls so I do not know. Once I get another appt. ( have to cancel my next appt. due to finances) I will talk to him about the possibility of the pharmaceutical company helping out. Enbrel is extremely expensive, The pain is intolerable. Perhaps I need to go back on the Skelaxin to help with the pain. Time will certain tell I am sure.
Go on the Enbrel website- you will find info on how to get help from them.check into free clinics and whatever other social programs you are elgible for.  all pharmaceutical companies have patient assistance programs.  Also talk to your rheumatologist about your financial issues...the drs very seldomly know what is going on in the front office.

Left unchecked your RA can get much much worse so you need to do everything you can to make sure you get treatment.
Check out my post entitled "MRI reports of my wrists" That is what happens when you go without meds because of no insurance, and let it get too far out of hand.

Hope you can find a way to get the meds you need.
littlewhisper,
I am so sorry that not only do u hve RA but u can't get the medication u need because of insurance probs and lack of funds.  Am fortunate enuf to live in Oz where we have a better system - for now, anyway - and my clerical job enabled me to continue working for longer than if I'd had to stand all day on a shop floor.  Even then, and with meds, in the first few years it was hard for me.  And yes, without the correct meds there will be even more damage and it is irreversable.   Others here have given u some tips and hopefully u can access something to help.  Let's know how u get on.

 Yes, yes, and yes!
I hope you are able to get some help with the medication.  I have too much to get assistance from the Enbrel manufacturer and not enough to pay the copay of 33% after my insurance pays.  Lots of folks in this category who are making do with less expensive meds .  Good Luck.

Ann
It's not the type of illness that can just run it's course and then go away. It's a chronic, progressive illness which means that over time it just continues to get worse.

Sorry the answers aren't more promising.

Little whisper I think its terrible that you are being denied medication because of money. RA isnt curable and it does get worse if not treated most of the time. Its the reason we left the USA and moved to Northern Ireland. When we were in the USA my husband recieved samples from Enbrel for a little while so its worth trying to contact them.
My heart goes out to you.

Go to enbrel.com and see if you can get assitance for your med. I just got a copay card from there and for the forst 6 months I pay nothing and after that I pay 10 a month. I do have insurance but I still get help  . You would have to read it as long as you are not medicare age. There is one there with no insurance to you will have to read it. Hope this helps here's the link and I hope it works if not just type in enbrel.com  Joan

Angel's talking about enbrel quick assist.  It isn't based on how much you earn or what kind of insurance you have.  The only stipulation is that you cannot be getting any government assistance.  Other than that, it's there for everyone, regardless of your income. When i had issues with paying for my enbrel i was recomended to look into the healthwell foundation by the makers on enbreal
