Arthritis Information -Locking hands

Share

Hi there, I have joined to try and help my Mum find a solution or at the very least have an understanding of her problem. Her whole hands or fingers lock around objects or just lock for no apparant reason. Her arms also do as well if she raises her arm above her head. She has been to see a neurologist and a joint Specialist who were both flummoxed. She had a test six years ago which said it was not RA. She is 58 and it is getting worse weekly.

Has anyone had or heard of someone with similiar problems , any help or advice would be very welcome.

Thanks for your time.

Havent seen you in a while...how is your mom?

I would suggest that your mum get to a primary care doctor and have blood tests ran, this will also save on expenses of seeing a specialist, have the RA test done again. I just recently found more info on seronegative RA and there is a test called anti ccp , or pep Igg testing for cyclic citruline that is supposed to be 98% accurate for RA. here is the link to the information if you like:

Hope she finds help soon, good luck

If the test you are reffering to is a blood test, it is possible to have serum negative RA. I have seen patients with that condition (the uncontrolled  gripping) but I think it is  neuro problem.  Maybe she needs a second opinion from diff. doctors.

good luck to yall

Thanks for your reply Crunchy. She has seen a neurologist and they were at a loss as to what was causing it. She was then sent to London to see a specialist that dealt with sudden jerk movements who told her what ever she had was nothing to do with what he specialised in, what ever that was. So now she awaits an appointment to go back to her neuro specialist who will then send her somewhere else in six months time ( as that appears to be the waiting time) and in the meant time her hands lock daily and she is in severe pain but refuses to give in to it.
