I have shingles for the second time since starting MTX less than 2 years ago.

I started Valtrex on Monday.  I am assuming the methotrexate has something to do with.

I have to call my RD about whether I should stop the medication.

Has anyone else had this experience and do think my lowered immune system becuause of methotrexate may be the cause?

Do you remember if you had to stop Mtx while being treated?

I think having shingles twice is a bit unusual, I don't have any pain, just itching, but the rash on my arm is unsightly and I'm not looking foward to this happening again.

Sorry to hear it Dottie. I've never had shingles but others here have it sounds awfully painful.
I'm sure someone will be able to lend some advice.
Hope you get better soon.
I've not had shingles... but for the first time in my life I' had cold sores....   first.time.ever

I didn't stop any of my meds.... not MTX nor enbrel...
but this is not nearly as painful as shingles..... best to you for a quick recovery.
Thanks for your kind replies.  I called my RD and she said to stop MTX FOR 2 weeks.

Last time I had a problem I missed 3 times and I  could feel it in my hands and feet.

I t works really well for me, except for shingles of course!  I do attribute these outbreaks to the MTX.  Perhaps I am wrong.

I don't particularly want to move on to something else, I'm sure no one does.

Well, things could be much worse!

Any opinions on whether methotrexate could be a contributing factor?

Again thanks for your replies.
