On Orencia for a year now and feel I'm going to have to add another med. Don't want to take Methotrexate again because of nodules so am considering adding Arava. After looking over the boards, wanted to know if ANYONE is using Arava without major side effects and at what dosage? Frankly, I'm scared to death of this drug, but at the same time, feel like I'm going downhill month by month! It feels like a "no win" situation!! Thanks!I have been taking Arava 20 mg daily for many months without major side effects. I experienced some GI distress when I first started, but by taking it at night and making some slight in changes what I ate and when, I have been able to work around the distress.
When Arava was added to the combination of DMARDS I was taking at that time, MTX and Plaquenil, I had a good response: increased energy, a marked reduction in morning stiffness, and less joint swelling.
