Gluten free diet | Arthritis Information

Hello,

Hope everyone is feeling well today!

Is anyone on a "gluten free" diet? I am so confused on what exactly gluten is....?

Can anyone explain to me what gluten is and if you've tried a gluten free diet. Has it worked?

Thanks for any input!

Hi painrelief,

When people mention Gluten Free diets, I automatically think of Gluten Intolerance, which is a food allergy or a disease called Celiac disease,Autism Spectrum Disease, wheat intolerance's and other diseases/symptoms that revolve around gluten.

Gluten:  A protein contained in wheat and other cereals that are made into flour. Gluten is responsible for helping bread dough or batter to rise.

I haven't tried a Gluten free diet yet but I do know of a few people who have tried and they say they feel better on it than off it.  I am thinking about trying it myself.  Did the Doctor suggest going on one?

Here is a place to go for some gluten free recipes, in case you have been looking for some.  You can either download them or read them online.

and a support group for those that have certain diseases that have to eat gluten free.

Hope this clears up some confusion for you.

Take care and enjoy the coming weekend.

I knew of a woman that had to be on the Gluten free diet and she was very limited in what she could eat. I dont htink I could go on that diet.

I have heard that the no dairy diet works. Have you heard that?

it was suggested to me that I go to an allergist, and get tested for food allergies....

dairy, wheat - MSG - nuts... etc.

apparently, a lot of people have food allergies they dont know about, and eat these foods all the time.
some allergies manifest themselves in ways other than rashes or sneezing.
things like stiff and swollen joints, fatigue.... etc.  apparently, you can eat nuts all your life, and never KNOW you're really allergic, because you never get sick - but your immune system is fighting the nuts.

or something like that

i always thought about it - but never went.

i know i'm terrible - if someone tells me i cannot have it - i will get it - and have it - and have it A LOT.
if someone tells me i cant eat ice cream, or peanut butter, or whatever.... that's all I'll eat.   I know me.  This is why diets suck for me.   The INSTANT I tell myself NOT to - I will - every time.

I have NO willpower.

I tried that no carb thing.   Lasted about an hour.  I love bread.  bread is good.  so is pasta, and rice, and potatoes.

If someone told me I couldn't eat gluten - it would be my new favorite thing.

sorry to break in on your thread on a rant.. hee heeee
