Anyone use a Hot Tub for RA? | Arthritis Information

Hot tub, jacuzzi, etc?  And if so, does it help?  I'm thinking about buying one but would like to know everyone else's opinion as to it's benefits in helping with RA.

I do! I bought a hot tub last March and love it. It takes away the small aches so i can deal with the bigger ones. I live in FL and I turn it up to 104 degress...people think I'm crazy for wanting it that hot

I would recommend one. I've always used hot bathes to soothe my joints.

I'm a hot, hot bath girl myself so I can just imagine the joy of having one of these. I'm so jealous Mags!!!

Maybe one day.

It's funny Lovie. I take a cup of crushed ice with me in the hot tub

I would love to have mine back.  I had one but I gave it to my daughter when my breast surgeon, said I should not use one because I had Lymph Nodes removed from my armpit.  It evidently could create Lymphedema, if I where to get some bacteria through an open sore I was not aware that I had.   I still remember going into the spa hurting and comming out feeling like a new person.   Those where the days.   SO, any one who has a spa,  Please, think of me, when you are laying there "chilling out"

ENJOY, ENJOY, ENJOY.

Another thing I love is the mattress pad covers that are like a heating pad!!!  It fits just like a mattress pad and it has two controls one for each side of the bed.  What I do is an hour before I go to bed I turn on the matress pad then place the pillows where I would lay in bed and cover them with the blankets.  When I go to bed I pull the pillows up to lay on them and my spot is all nice and toasty warm and it makes my hips not hurt so much at night.  Only thing is if you have poor circulation or diabetes you can't use this.  It is not as great as a hot tub but it sure can help!!!  memeWow!

I wish I had a HOT TUB!

When I was on my honeymoon 2 years ago, there was a bathtub with jets which helped too!Maybe we can all chip in and buy a hot tub...and then share it....one week you have it, the next week someone else, etc....LOL

That works for me!

Have any idea what the shipping charges would be?...

Did you know that witha letter from your RD you can claim part of the cost against your tax return.

Not sure of the actual rule but i know people that have done.

clufus38760.4121759259cool, you're lucky to have your own hot tub. i'm sure most of us here with we had our own. i know i do. i take a lot of hot baths, especially when i'm real sore. it definitely helps a lot. and when i'm well enough to go swimming, i always hop in the jacuzzi afterwards. it's the best....Hey..I haven't been around in awhile, but I had to respond to this one! I have a ThermoSpa Hot Tub and it actually has approval from the Arthritis Foundation. So, I'm sure others are too. I know I can't live without mine. 103 degrees is my max. Hubby can't take more that 102...that one degree makes a BIG difference!! Hope that helps!!I have a hot tub, my husband and I will take a dip in it every night before bed. And I find it helps a lot. I like it at 104 too. I use the suna and hot tub at our local sports centre at least 2 a week and find it really helps. My hips knees ok every flamming joint that helps the whole of me [QUOTE=clufus]

Yes, this is true - but, if you are adding your hot tub during a house remodel, like we did, then it will not count.  It has to be a cost in of by itself.
My mom lent me an electric heating blanket to sleep with and it has been really helpful---the hot tub sounds pretty good though....think I might give it a try[QUOTE=clufus]

In FL when we bought our hot tub we did not have to pay taxes on it. I had it prescribed for RA. We can't use it on our taxes as medical expenses are not deductible unless it's more than 7% of our total income. Oh well!

What about those steam rooms (like at health clubs) do they help any?

I dunno, but I would think they do. I used to belong to a health spa and they had a eucalyptus (sp) room..I could get used to sitting in that!

Okay...what is a eucalyptus room?????

It's a steam room with eucalyptus leaves, and it does smell like weak Vicks. I always felt good coming out of there!
