Questions re CRP and VitD | Arthritis Information

I have had my latest CRP results and it was at 5 compared to 15.5 at dx 18mths ago so thats all good....but....I am really confused at how this is measured as on one site I checked,  5 and above is considered high! Rheumy told me it was low.

I have been prescribed VitD as opposed to paying for it myself (and that IS a good thing...lol) and I find it odd that I am to take one tablet once a month. This after daily doses from the pharmacy. I did ask the Pharmacist and she thought they are fat soluble and stay in the body longer. OK...but a month? Anyone else take their VitD once monthly?

TIA!

Lyn   what are the iU of the Vit D you take monthly?

I took 10,000 a week once... and 50,000 monthly....
The VitD is Cholecalciferol Ta 1.25 mg (Cal PSM)...once per month.

eta: thats 50,000 per tab.

that makes perfect sense to me then..... in that it is what my Endo prescribed when I was at a level of 4 ....

CRP? I know nothing

The lab that my RD uses considers 0 - 0.5 to be a normal CRP. You need to find out what your lab considers normal to determine how elevated your CRP really is.different labs have different machines that can use different norms that others.  So you have to stick with your doc or call the lab or get a second opinion (I wouldn't cause this really is normal to have different values)

Hey Lyn. Here where I live, anything above 3 is abnormal with the CRP. My last Crp a month ago was 18.5 which is high by my doctors standards. Vitamin D is interesting. My last level was 19 so I was prescribed 50,000 units once a week for 8 weeks. When I went in to get it refilled, I was told that I was not allowed to take Vitamin D for more than 8 weeks at that dose without another blood test. My next test was up to 38. My doctor placed me back on the daily dose of 3000 units.   She told me there is a higher risk of toxicity when taken in high doses weekly.   She said she will retest me in 3 months and if I'm low again, she'll put me back on the high dose. My doctor is on this Vitamin D campaign and tests every woman (she only sees women) that goes to her. She says she if finding a staggering number of her patients that are very deficient. Hope this helps.
