I am 18 and have been diagnosed with RA for 3 years and have been getting worse each month the doctor has decided to place me on Humira. I am scared and Excited at the same time, i do not have a phobia of needles but i do have a fear of the side effects, if any one with experience with Humira can please let me know if you have experienced any negative's beside the burning.
I am going in on Thursday for my training and my 1st injection!!

Thanks For all your Help
Hi awbarcellos and welcome to the forum. I took Humira when I was first diagnosed, and had no side effects. I always did my shots in the stomach area, and aside from a very slight burning sensation, I had no problems. I did ice the area before the shot for about 15 minutes or so. I hope you have good results with Humira. Best of luck to you for speedy results. Awbarcellos, I'm taking Humira and like Graciemom have had no real side affects.
I also inject into the stomach area and have only experienced the slight burning sensation that Graciemom mentions.

I'm a little different in that I use the injectable pen rather than the needle.
I take it out of the fridge and let it get to room temp for at least 30 mins before the big inject time.
Hi awbarcellos,
I had no side effects during the year or so that I was on it.

Oh yeah, definitely, like others have mentioned-- let it sit out @ room temp a few minutes before injecting--it really does help w/the burning/stinging thing.
I did the shots in my stomach, too. Tried it in my thigh a couple of times, but it seemed to sting much worse.

Good luck to ya! Hope the Humira works for you!

Hi and welcome to the forum.  I've used Humira for several years and except for a couple of infections things have gone well.  I had to come off all my meds due to some dental problems.  There's a big difference in our age and I think a young immune system will do fine on the biologics.  Lindy

Thanks Everyone for your Imput and encourgement!!
I moved my apointment up to 11am PST today and it went well, i was expecting more pain.
Thanks Again!!
glad it was so easy for you awbarcellos...

I saw that Bodak allows his shot to come to room temp for 30 minutes..

I want to say that I use to do that w/ my enbrel and then one day I was too tired to wait for it to get warmer... and I just dosed myself...  I felt great the next day!!  amazingly better than I had felt in all the time I was using the enbrel..

I no longer heat it up.. (but I do ice the area briefly before the shot) and I do feel as though I have gotten a better response from the med.....

I might give that a try Babs a see what comes of it. Wow, I inject in my thigh and it HURTS, but sounds like stomach would be much better.  I have such a mushy stomach after kids though, and there was something about not injecting near stretch marks?  Uh, that's a large part of my stomach! Still may try to get it to work...Meant to add...the box says only leave it out 15-20 minutes so I always wonder if it loses potency after that...
Meant to add...the box says only leave it out 15-20 minutes so I always wonder if it loses potency after that...
And you know, I have never read the box, I think it is time to.
Must admit, I have left it out an hour before I inject.
Looks like I have been doing the wrong thing.
I leave mine out 30 minues or so myself. Maybe I shouldn't do that. I might give your way a try babs.

I've been on Humira for years and have had a great response to it.....and no known side effects.

Hope your experince is a good one as well!
