Well, it was just as everyone said. Had the procedure and didn't remember a thing. Not even  my Dr. who came to  talk to us afterwards.  Seems I have a Hiatus Hernia. Won't know the results of the biopsies (2 of them) until sometime next week. A little anxious about that but glad everything is over and done with.
Quick question has anyone else had/have a Hiatus Hernia. What  treatment plan are you on? Is surgery always necessary??  I know the Dr. will go over all of this with me next week but I am hoping to get some info before I go to see him. Thanks everyone.
mom2threeinaz2009-06-25 18:14:18I have a hiatal hernial  we do absolutely nothing for it in particular,  but because of erosions and GERD I am on an acid inhibitor and  have to be careful with my diet.  No carbonation, low caffiene, low fat. Thanks for your info. I am waiting to hear just how bad mine is size wise I mean. I already started a  new med called Kapadex last week, and it does seem to be helping more then the omprozole I have been taking. I also have a hiatal hernia and it's just one of those annoying things you learn to live with and work around.  I think it is rare that they need surgery.  I wouldn't worry about it, you should be able to get it under control and be fine.Glad to hear you were comfortable with the procedure. I don't know anything about hiatal hernias to tell you the truth. Hope they can find some kind of medication that will give you relief. Keep us posted!

Were you given info about hiatal hernia? One simple thing you must do is to be sure you sit up awhile after you eat. Eating smaller meals can help too. I think surgery is only indicated if the hole is so big that a large portion of the stomach goes up through to the chest then crowds the lungs etc. That isn't the norm. You probably complained about the discomfort early enough before it got real bad.  Try those simple techniques.

Surgery for it is rare.  I had surgery for it because the stomach had actually broke through the hole and was crowding my lungs and heart.  I had the surgery 25 years ago and it held pretty well.  Good luck to you.  HG
