Purpose of this board?? | Arthritis Information
I have to say that as someone who joined this forum looking for information and support, I have been flabbergasted and dissapointed at the numerous mean, petty and backbiting posts I have come across that have nothing to do with rheumatoid arthritis. Aren't these boards monitored to keep things on track and to prevent people that want to act like 14 year old bullies from using these forums to spout their nastiness? For those of us who are sincerely looking to form bonds with others that are dealing with the same ailments; for those of us who are trying to fight the depression and pain that tries to take over our days . . . logging on to a 'support board' to find such mean spirited posts dominating the conversations so often, is just a real downer. Doesn't anyone one else have concerns about this, or are the bullies in charge? If they are, I guess I picked the wrong place for support, and will have to look for a more legimate board where people's posts are sincere and compassionate; not mean and controlling.

This is not a moderated board and everyone here knows that. So, those who are concerned about the off topic threads simply don't read them. If you don't mind sifting through, there are many informative and supportive threads. Stick around, but if you do, do it knowing that this is how we are.

While we empathize with you about the trolling on this forum.. there is nothing that can be done except ignore.. this is an UNmoderated, PUBLIC forum... ANYONE can sign up and they can sign up repeatedly.. and they can create as many personas as they choose.
Aside from that..You won't find another forum with as much up to date data as here, thanks to those who bring the info from all over the net...
I hpe you can find your way through the ugliness and search out the truths and good people here.

yeah i noticed there r lots of rude ppl on here
but i just try and ignore them
ignoring them usually works
and other ppl r actually very nice and supportive most of the time
so i like it here
and i wouldnt ever leave
even with the rude ppl and their mean posts
As JasmineRain has pointed out several times, one of the delights of the WWW is that there is something for everyone. Many people are more comfortable in/on moderated discussion forums and they are readily available.
As others have said, it doesn't take too long to sort the wheat from the chaff and create a personal map that avoids the minefields and ambushes, although sometimes wading right into the centre can prove to be entertaining, informative, and provide a momentary removal from the day-to-day difficulties of a chronic illness.
Now, having said all that, is there anything that you are ready to discuss where we can offer support and maybe forge the bonds of friendship?

I just came back to this site, the beginning of this month (I had been here several years ago), and I too, was shocked at the fighting and language. I also had a post similar to yours entitled "Observation". I had the same type of responses that you're getting now and nothing changed. I looked for another site, but found that none of them had message boards. Please let me know if you found one that I might have overlooked. In the meantime, I'm trying sift through this site to find information/supoort for my RA.
I agree with everything that you said and I hope your post gets a better response than mine did. I honestly don't understand why anyone would want to inflict more pain on someone who is sick and already in pain. Please know that there are some of us, at this site, that really care and are here for the right reasons.

Welcome Flower Mama! You'll find just what you're looking for with a bunch of BS and mean spirits thrown in. You joined at a particularly ugly time. It comes and goes...you can work around it. There are a lot of very nice, helpful and supportive people here who truly do over ride the bad. Stick around.
I've been a member here a long time and have seen all kinds of stuff; but frankly before now I've never actually been embarrashed. Here lately; I'd be embarrashed to recommend this site to anyone. It's not just mean...it's turned really dirty. The launguage alone used here lately makes me wish kids like Star weren't exposed to it. (Although we really are growing rather fond of you young Star)
Flower Mama~I'm sorry that you've had to be exposed to it too...but honestly; there's a lot more good than there is bad here and usually in the end, the good has the best staying power.
I'm a member at different places; so there's a lot of time I just pop in and then quickly move on. Many of us do that. If you see something that interest you; Stay. If not....move on for that day. It doesn't mean you can't come back. It just means that this is one of those times where a lot of folks find other places to occupy our time.
Hope to see ya around more often. As long as enough of us stay around and make other things more impotant the junk always fades away.

Look at the positives and ignore the negatives....
The less attentions they receive....... the less they are here.....
Lots of support boards to choose from on the 'net. Personally, I prefer an unmoderated board. I don't care for the formality and narrow focus of the moderated boards.

Another group of Piss Angels, ooops, I mean Peace Angels. Lots of moderated forums and they pick this one because it's not moderated and they can bitch about it. If it were a moderated board they wouldn't be able to bitch about it. Go figure that and you'll see why they bitch here and continue to come here just to have something to talk about with their husband, I guess. "Honey, can you believe how nasty this forum is?" Sorry; I didn't know it was not moderated . . . in fact, I did not know that some boards are moderated and some aren't. I just found this board through WEB MD and watched it for awhile, and decided it would be good to be a part of. Once I actually became a member and made my first post, it seemed like all Hell broke loose with folks fighting back and forth. I'm capable of picking and choosing what I read; I just didn't understand that this was normal, I guess, for an unmoderated board. Live and learn.

The purpose of this board for each of us to reach out to each other with understanding and empathy because those not suffering from RA haven't a clue how devastating RA is and what it does to us and our families.
Unfortunately there are those who feel the need to mock and insult most everyone else on this board. Why? Nobody knows. Perhaps there lives are so empty they choose this path of behavior because it's simpler than taking positive actions to improve their lives.

Almost all my friends and relatives were in the military and none of them are filthy like him. I would say that it was his upbringing. Shame is on him for trying to blame his perversions on the military.
