the two painkillers in question are percocet and vicodin..along with the attempt to ban darvocet the FDA is taking a lot of pain meds out of our treatment aresenal
So what do they want us to take?that wasn't addressed...Vicodin doesn't have a equivilant without tylenol.  For percocet you can take oxycodone or take the oxycodone ibuprofen combo....but that can cause problems if you take other anti  inflammatories...
At minimum expect the meds to receive a black box warning for potential tylenol problems and other limitations in dosing
this is important to all of us....hmmm when I was in REAL pain neither of those drugs did a thing for me anyway. In fact tylenol does not relieve a headache for me either yet my doctor forbids me to use Advil. I forget if it's because the MTX or the prednisone.
I wish they would come up with a new drug.
I can live with a black box warning.  There are days that I don't need Vicodin and then there are days that I take 3 and it works great for me.  Tramadol upsets my stomach and keeps me awake at night.

I think it's interesting because the side effects of Tylenol has been known for years.  Why all of a sudden this great interest?  I don't think anymore people have died from combo prescriptions this year than two years ago.   Does it have anything to do with stopping abuse in the system?  Instead of identifying the abusers and prescribers they'll take these drugs off the market even though there are millions of people who rely on them so they can function on a daily basis.

I don't need them daily but it's comforting to know that there's something I can take in case I do need them.  Now I don't know what will be available - Oxycodone?  Not really my first choice of drug for pain from RA/PsA/OA damage.

It will be interesting to see what transpires.  Something else to discuss with my primary care doctor - pain control.  I thought that we had solved the problem, guess not.  Back to square one.  Lindy
i have a gut feeling that the meds will stay on the market..of course that may simply be wishful thinking as percocet is my pain med..I think there will be more limits on prescribing and some elimination of the higher doses.

It seems weird that they are continueing to allow OTC tylenol mixes and large bottles to be sold.  Seems rather contradictory.  I take less tylenol through my percocet a day than someone who takes a days complete dose of tylenol arthritis forumula
It is a shame they are going to try to due away with meds that help people cope with their pain.

Maybe they should just ban tylenol? Just a thought.

Well... Darvocet really bites, for me anyways. It never seems to help my pain much. I usually have to take 2 Ultrams abut 2 hours after I take my darvocet for my pain. I just wish I could find a pain med that would work without having to take something else a few hours later for pain that never left or came on after I already took pain meds.

Like last night... I cleaned the shelves and drawers of the fridge, I scrubbed them down and then cleaned the fridges inside and all. A lot of bending over. Then...  went to lay down and the left side of my neck down to the ball of my shoulder was throbbing with pain. I took a darvocet and it still had not took my pain away 2 hours after taking it. I know it was 2 hours because I was trying to go to sleep. Then... after I had gave up hope on the Darvocet taking that pain away... it stopped all of a sudden. But I still had to suffer and lose 2 hours of sleep because it took that long to work for me.
