Some mental health issues common with RA

<>According to a new Dutch study, 63 percent of people who have rheumatoid arthritis (RA), with the vast majority of these problems involving symptoms of depression. But the researchers also found that more than half of the RA patients in this study also reported they'd experienced stress events before the onset of their RA. Among the study's other findings were that RA patients also suffered from cognitive impairment and sleep disorders in addition to depression. Depressive symptoms also were more common in patients who took higher doses of the steroid prednisone. Investigators concluded that psychiatric problems are often present with RA, and they are linked closely with stress and disease-related activity.  Read full story >
