Petition for a General Amnesty | Arthritis Information

Share

The earliest examples of amnesty are in Greek and Roman law. The best documented case of amnesty in the ancient world occurred in 403 b.c. A long-term civil war in Athens was ended after a group dedicated to reuniting the city took over the government and arranged a general political amnesty. Effected by loyalty oaths taken by all Athenians, and only later made into law, the amnesty proclaimed the acts of both warring factions officially forgotten.

Amnesty has the same etymological root as amnesia, a loss of memory. Therefore, amnesty is indicative of an act of oblivion. I suggest that as persons of good will who share a potentially debilitating disease that we, the only authority to be found on this discussion board, offer ourselves and every other member of this board unconditional amnesty, a full pardon for past wrongs whether real or perceived and a personal vow to keep the rhetoric to a low roar, the name-calling less strident, any tendency to employ a set of double standards thwarted, and obliterate enmity at every level.

This petition is offered in good faith, without hidden agenda, and with a heart-level desire to end this long standing civil war.

Shug, Member of AI, herein offers my public oath. Shug, great idea, and count me in!  Some days, my memory is better than others and there is much I am more than willing to forget.

Waddie, Member of AI, herein offers my public oath.
Oh yes I agree. I already forgot what we were talking about. This should be really easy.

Milly, member of AI herein offers my public oath.
okey dokeySounds like a good idea to me! Me too! We can only hope that some of the big guns think so also...Shug, what an inspiration you are.  You are such a wise and intelligent woman.
Add my public oath to the list. June, Member of AI, herein offers my public oath. I think that's a great suggestion. I am new to the RA forum, usually posting in PsA, and I wasn't sure I wanted to get involved. It seems a little hostile. I, Karen, apologizie for any and all of my past indiscretions and unkind words or judgements, and pledge to move forward without prejudgement and with sincere forgiveness and acceptance for all.I'm on board.Bump anyone else? This is a fabulous idea! Definately count me in!here I am.My dear friend Pinnie is in the USA at the moment , maybe she will too when she gets back. She will probably check her PM's from there so I will send her one.
My dear friend Pinnie is in the USA at the moment , maybe she will too when she gets back. She will probably check her PM's from there so I will send her one.
LMAO she's already seen this and ignored it like the troll she is (and you are too)

Yeah, I think everyone knows that.  Besides, even if she did, she wouldn't last long.  She'd revert to her old ways of nastiness in no time flat.
I'M IN!!!
a most excellent idea, Shug!!

Face it, lorster, prickcushion, lyndee, joonie, janlucindo & justsaynomore need to LEAVE THE BOARD, apologies don't mean sh*t anymore with them.
Lisa0nline2009-07-05 11:09:07I'll play nice... I'd rather lurk anywayI'm in...Wise words Shug I'm in too.
I am bumping this to allow a recent poster see that at least some of us are trying to break the cycle of negation, blame, and name calling.

Posting infrequently and then only on controversial topics, at least from where I sit, only adds to the misery and the divisiveness.
exactly,  Shug...IDK if your intended saw this..... I hope so.

Sounds like a wonderful plan!

Good idea....and I promise to do my utmost to .

This has GOT to be the funniest f**king post yet.  What a liar you are.  What a hypocrite.  What a dumb ass.  ;)
Anyone else interested?I"m in. This really is worth keeping on the first page... I am hummmmmmming that more will take it seriously and give this a shot.

We have too much discord in our world and too many health issues in our lives to add stress.

I know it would be impossible to get a consensus on something so simple as a new background color for the forum, so I don't expect to never have disagreements or that we should all hold hands and sing Kum Ba Yah... but we could respectfully agree to disagree.

count me in
.. but we could respectfully agree to disagree.
Prexactly. If the name calling, the derision, the ANGER over past wrongs, whether real or perceived could be held in check and each member be wholly responsible for how they respond the discussions could include great degrees of both agreement and disagreement.

As long as some of us pack the past and fire it like a pistol at those who have offended them or a friend singing in unison is not even a rumour.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read and to respond.

To amnesty!

Hi KiwiLass! How are you!? It has been ages since we have heard from you! I have missed you! I hope you will  NOT be a lurker and join in on discussions again soon. I am definitely in!   I try to stay away from these posts, but count me in.    Great idea!JUST A THOUGHT BUT IF YOU ARE COUNTED IN SHOULDN'T YOU THEN NOT POST ANYTHING NASTY BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN BAD POSTS SINCE SOME OF YOU HAVE BEEN COUNTED IN.  MAYBE IT WOULD BE BEST TO IGNORE THE NEGATIVE POSTERS AND THEY MIGHT STOP.  I NORMALLY DON'T GET INVOLVED BUT IT WOULD BE SO NICE TO HAVE A BOARD WHERE PEOPLE GET ALONG AND TRULY WANT TO SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCES WITH THIS DREADFUL DISEASE.  LIKE I SAID JUST A THOUGHT.  THANKS, SANDY
JUST A THOUGHT BUT IF YOU ARE COUNTED IN SHOULDN'T YOU THEN NOT POST ANYTHING NASTY BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN BAD POSTS SINCE SOME OF YOU HAVE BEEN COUNTED IN.
Some of the VERY people who responded positively to this post, with their "Count me ins" are STILL posting ugly posts!  But then again, this is no surprise to any of us really.  It's just par for the course for the same ole group of people.  They have many alias's that they'll use for a while to post ugliness but then they'll slip right back into their old selves.
tsk tsk tsk

we're singing kumbaya here...

Hillhoney2009-07-08 09:41:25Way to keep it real Karen!  Hey- you forgot me!
Pretty impressive show of support I'd say!
I echo that. Thanks for keeping a roll-call for us, Hillhoney.

As has been said said, more than once
exactly so....

we can ALL try to be the bigger person, Shug, and everyone.....  look away....
because what does it do but continue a grievance and invites new players who take this side or that following each other into a larger altercation.....
It's so NOT worth it... as I a sure many of us have realized.
Hey- you forgot me!
Sorry wannabe - noted and corrected!

Shouldn't this apply to a PERSON encompassing all their unsernames?

Pretty impressive show of support I'd say!
I echo that. Thanks for keeping a roll-call for us, Hillhoney.

As has been said said, more than once
I give up and will read no more or post  in certain  posts.  I'm sorry, I'm new at being on a message board.  Been here reading for the last three months.  I went and deleted picture.  I don't need to be on the board,  I get upset too easy,  I'll blame it on the predisone....LOL have a great day
Hmmmmmmmm, prickcushion is this you, maybe joonie or lorster?  Then again there's lyndee and jan lucindo and justsaynomore and pip and how about teed?

I wonder.............................

I think all of the usual chronic offenders that signed this are full of sh*t and just waiting for time to pass so they can resume their spewing of vomit.
You  have a good day . Lets keep up this general amnesty. So many great topics on the board lately
You  have a good day .
Hear! Hear! A good day is just what we all need and deserve. Thanks for the reminder Bodak.
I admire everyone who has had the courage to commit to this.  But it is much easier to do when you have joined with so many others for a greater good.  There really is strength in numbers.

I hope some of the others will reconsider and let go of past hurt and anger and we can all move on together.
I have been patiently waiting for a certain someone to sign up but I guess it will never happen so one and all, consider this my pledge.

Have a good day everyone.

I'm glad you did PatI think this thread highlights the majority of the AI members that want to live in peace here. The ones that cause trouble may be the loudest.....but they are not the majority of the members here.

For anyone who thinks this board is nothing but trouble; take a closer look at the ones who take this seriously. There are so many more here that want us to all get along and live together in peace.

Let by gones be by gones. Yes; some who have pledged to leave the past in the past have been offenders in the past.....but they are willing to apoligize and forgive past offenses. I think we all deserve second, third....even tenth chances. Forgive and forget. Stop holding onto all the anger. LET IT GO!! Just; let it go.

hey everybody:
This really is worth keeping on the first page... I am hummmmmmming that more will take it seriously and give this a shot.
I too think this should be on the first page so I am giving it a bump.and lets all keep in mind that we are better off ignoring posts we feel are trying to get a reaction than we are responding to them and calling attention to those theads.  Responding keeps the thread on the front page Thanks for the reminder, Buckeye. I also think there is something to be said for a slight change of perspective: often we have such a cast-in-stone perception of someone, some topic, some idea that we react instead of act. We react to the person, the topic, the idea rather than acting to shift our perspective and gain new insight, understanding, or even tolerance.

And...
As has been said said, more than once I promise!  Count me in...
Hope everyone has a less painful day.

cheers to buckeye and Shug!!
I read a great quote on that same topic today -- it said

I don't have to attend every arguement I am invited to.
If you have forgiven and forgot......Why are you back in here trying to stir the pot....Lets keep peace on this board,  Please, let this go.
If you have forgiven and forgot......Why are you back in here trying to stir the pot....Lets keep peace on this board,  Please, let this go.
I beg your pardon?  I am not quite sure why you consider my statements, or anyone else’s, in this topic to be stirring the pot, in a negative manner. From a wholly personal and completely subjective point of view, I do not see anything deliberately provocative that needs to be let go. Rather, metaphorically, stirring this pot in this instance, merely creates awareness and in doing so can, and has, effected changes.

As the Arthritis Insight amnesty was intended to be liberating, should not members who for one or another reasons might have missed it early in the month be given the opportunity to read the proposal?  For the most part the discussion that has taken place herein has been tempered and civil. I am not attempting to be quarrelsome, offensive, or disrupt the “peace of the board”.

However, I thank you for the criticism and will take it to heart.

Cheers, Shug
Shug, you sure have a way with words.  All I'm saying is, if you have forgiven and forgotten then  it is time for you to give it up and lets get back to RA.  You can't pick at people in your fanncy way and not expect people to react.   I know you are very sick and have a lot of time on your hands,  I feel for you and wish you the best.  Please let this go....people don't need to be reminded.  There is nothing going on.......There seems to be a lot of chum in the water.  Hopefully everyone will be smart and "just keep swimming".
There seems to be a lot of chum in the water.  Hopefully everyone will be smart and "just keep swimming".  Looks like this needs a bump.Kickin it to the top!Whatever happened to this????this.. doesn't work when there's someone here who comes in to insult other members... that's what happens to this...
she's never here...but when she is.. there is animosity due to her pot stirring ways ... when she's not.. everyone gets along, Teed.......

BUMP AGAINI don't disappear, and I'm not the trouble.  The ones that signed this and now we have peace, are trying to get things going again, by keep bumping this. If there is peace why bring up the pass, let it go.  You all sure haven't forgiven or forgotten, Sorry but that's the way I feel and if you want to keep the peace remenber what you signed.
Bye, your not worth my time.

BUMP. Peace, Lindy

Babs...I did NOT see anything that insulted anyone, only in your eyes.  I also was wondering when the pot stirring comment would come up.  I would like to say...."IT TAKES TWO TO TANGO"

Just keep swimming. . .

Even if it is against an increasing strong current whose only purpose is to push us back.
I agree Spelunker,  There is a need to have this back at the top.  Come on people, it was so nice to have peace, lets work toward it again.  Stay out of it, if no one answers, It will go away again.
