When ever my hands do swell it ususally last some where to two or three months. Mine do not bother me every day. They are noisy most of the time as in popping and catching but they are not crippled up bad and swollen all of the time. Is this normal for RA? Well I am about six weeks into the really bad hand fingers swelling. I guess for about a month before that I would have some occasional throbbong that made me question that things might get worse.

My foot and ankle is always swollen just different degrees of swelling but usually enough to create havoc. Do you have some places that stay swollen always a bit and other places that come and go. Please indicate these areas. Also do these problem areas show damage?
My hands use to swell so bad I had to get a new wedding band - now most of the time they are back to normal - my ankles and wrists are another story seem they are most always swollen, but little apin either more in them so go figure,LOL  Hugs and good vibes.Mine are slightly swelled right now, and have been for a day or 2. It is because of the rain is coming my way.

My fingers will swell when the pred starts to wear off, around 5pm. and then when I wake up they are not as swelled.
Hi Milly, mine are swollen most of the time.  Across my knuckles are swollen and my finger joints are swollen.  It changes from day to day.  I have erosions in most of my finger joints and subluxations.  My wrist is swollen always and has a tendon tear with other damage.  Right now my hands are the only part that's not getting better.  LindybumpbumpI have no swelling in my fingers right now........ for the first time in two years!!    so, don't give up.. it can/will happen......
IDK how long this will last.... but Im loving it right now!!
Wrists and knuckles are swollen more often than not. I look forward to the day that I can say, as Babs does , "I have no swelling." Yeah! I have swelling quite often in the hands but that is not uncommon with PA. I do alot of work now on the computer for where I work and I notice that the tips of both my ring fingers will ache and sometimes really hurt when you touch them, I still work out in the gardens and I do still do my needlecrafts. They are not as bad as they were about 3 yrs agao when I couldn't even turn the key in the ignition. I get swelling of the palms and inflammation of the soft tissue of my hands but I make sure to stay on the naisds and do warm treatments with them like washing the dishes sifting through a bowl of uncooked rice that has been warmed up in the microwave. The dr has given me patches that I wear on the inflammatory parts of my hands at night and that helps alot too. meme
PS My hands are always warm unless I am really tired then they are like ice and boy do they ache then!!!meme2009-07-05 13:04:49Thanks!

Mil, my hands are swollen and painful almost every day along with the bottom joints on my toes and most recently my ankles. Some days they get a little better as the day progresses, but then I go to sleep and when I wake up it starts all over again and usually it's worse than the day before. Stupid RA!  :-\

Lin, my left wrist is a mess! It hurts like crazy and at my next RD visit I'm going to request either an xray or MRI. I'm going to ask about a cortisone injection as well, although I had no luck with it in Feb. I'm just annoyed at the constant agony it causes and I'm willing to get stabbed if it will provide some relief. ;)

My hands swell daily, but then again, my RA is not under control right now.  It is very painful and annoying because I can't always grip either.  But, I'm hoping for control very, very soon.  Babs post gave me hope.
