Gums and RA | Arthritis Information

Im convinced my RA might have been brought on by tooth problems. I had my wisdom teeth removed at a young age as they were impacted, then after that I had a gum problem . With in weeks the fatigue and the pains started. Now I have sjogrens and this has made my gums worse which in turn makes my RA feel worse.

Anyone else have this problem

I've had problems with my gums - they were especially red and bled easily when first diagnosed 2 years ago.

I have been very conscientious about all the little things I might do for myself to improve my RA, and flossing twice daily and rinsing with peroxide is one of my many self-help exercises. Just this weekend I had a water pic installed in the shower (less mess) because of all I've been reading about the gum/RA connection. They bleed a lot less now.

I have been feeling very well lately; could be from any one of the things I've accomplished in the past 2 years or a combination: lost a lot of weight so that my BMI is normal, walk every day- in the sunshine whenever possible (I live in Florida, lucky me), take fish oil and 2000 i.u. D3, drink a little red wine, no red meat, semi-gluten-free (I don't read labels, but I do stay away from bread and other grains), lots of fruit and veggies and very little fat other than olive oil.   Also I try to stay away from MSG.

Something is working -- still no RA meds -  Advil maybe a few times a month for minor aches, but haven't had swelling in any joint since December and before that it was very sporadic.  I am amazed, as my RD told me 2 years ago that I have a severe, erosive form of RA with RF+ and anti-CCP+.  She said I would eventually develop full-blown RA, but if anything, my symptoms are going away.  Perhaps I am very fortunate to have a mild case, but it also could be from the many lifestyle changes I have made.  If so, it has been worth it.
gingivitis is an inflammatory disease.  I haven't experienced a link but I don't dispute its a possibility
