KALAMAZOO -- Pfizer Inc. launched a program Wednesday to help newly unemployed Americans who have no prescription drug coverage and who no longer have the financial means to continue receiving medications made by Pfizer.
The program, called Maintain, allows qualified people to received any of 70 medicines made by the New York-based pharmaceutical company "free of charge for up to 12 months or until they become insured, whichever comes first," according to information provided by the company.
The program was inspired by Pfizer employees who were moved by the struggles that family members, friends and neighbors have had to make ends after jobs, said Frank Foley, Kalamazoo site leader for Pfizer Global Manufacturing, in a press release issued by the company.
"Michigan is especially hard hit by the recession, meaning thousands of people are without work and without the medicines they need," Foley said. "Pfizer is doing its part to help through Maintain, an idea championed by Pfizer colleagues. We make important medicines in Kalamazoo that will be available through this program."
TO QUALIFY• Individuals have to be able to demonstrate they lost jobs since Jan. 1.
• They must lack prescription coverage.
• They must be able to demonstrate financial hardship.
• They must be on Pfizer medicine for at least three months before being unemployed and before enrolling in the program.

Didn't mean to leave the elderly out!Maybe others will follow suit... it would be nice... Bump... for anyone takin Pfizer medication, it's worth looking into.
