Darvocet stays onthe market | Arthritis Information

Despite recommendations from its advisory committee the FDA is allowing Darvocet to remain on the market with the addition of a black box warning about risk of  ODing

This is significent because darvocet contains acethominphen and while this wasn't the reason for its review it is important considering the advisory committee's recommendation of the banning of percocet and vicodin

I don't get wanting to eliminate the meds because someone can OD on it...... someone can OD on almost anything......

and taking too much percocet and vicodin, and darvocet can harm your liver....  big deal! so can what we take!

overdosing shouldn't be a consideration when it comes to keeping a med available if needed..
and removing extra-strength tylenol.......  sheesh.

I'm not understanding that... so there's no more extra strength but nothing stops someone who wants to take three!! instead of two regular strength????
My sentiments exactly babs!As long as the meds are marked as to what is in them and people aren't stupid about it, it should be alright, right?
I don't think the meds should be removed-but all meds should have "contains acethominphen" very clearly written on it.  We all know it is in Tylenol, but it pops up everywhere.

Darvocet in my opinion was a useless pain relief. The number of pills far exceeded the amount of pain relief I was experiencing. I for one am glad it was banned here . I switched to Tramadol. I only take 2 to 4 capsules a days.
If I could have got the same amount of relief from so few pills the Darvocet would have been ok.
Banning meds if they are effective in small doses doesnt make sense but on this one I am 100% behind our ban.
Ooops...Darvocet is for another reason-should have read the entire article.  Yeah Darvocet was because of the OD potential and they didn't think it worked.  But it also contains acetominophen which wasn't addressed at all which contradicts the FDA's acetominophen concerns.

I'm all for better labeling of acet. containing products.  i think part of the problem is too many people don't know that tylenol is acetominophen.  But the FDA going after the controlled substances without addressing the OTC availability is stupid

Hear! Hear!
we'll have to see what happens...
