How long do flare ups last? | Arthritis Information

I've been in a flare for about 5 days now and tonight is bad. I just took my Enbrel so hopefully that will start to help. How long do your flares last? This is the longest for me, and I'm pretty frusterated by it. Any advice, words of wisdom? When I was pretty controlled RA wise, they would last a few days.  I have been in a pretty constant flare for the last few months, but we are working on it.

Hopefully the Enbrel will give you some relief.  If it gets really bad you can ask the RD for a pred burst.  This will give you some relief and "break the cycle" but not cause the nasty side effects that come from the long term pred use.

Hope you feel better.....
Thanks for the advice. Unfortunatly I have kidney disease and can't have pred. So it's Tylenol and Enbrel for me. Take care.
AllyA bad flare for me usually lasts a week or two. I try not to let it go that long though, and will usually call my RD for a Medrol dose pack. That usually helps right away.Mine usually last for months. I only had 1 (in 20 months) and it lasted 2 months. Probably because I was stubborn about it and tried to suffer through using bracing and extra strength tylenol for most of it. Dr. increased my MTX to the Max and upped my prednisone to 10 mgs from 2 and then I got over it. BumpThanks for all the advice. I feel a little whiney complaint after just 5 days when you all seem to suffer much longer. Thanks again take care.
