Beautifully Designed Equipment . . . | Arthritis Information

Hi. I am an Occupational Therapist turned Artist and Designer, currently completing an MA in Design at NUCA.
I 'm really interested in doing a project looking at the aesthetics of the equipment that is currently on the market  - especially adapted cutlery, cups, bowls and  plates. I haven't worked as an OT for several years, but a quick look on the internet tells me things haven't moved on an awful lot - still quite a lot of beige plastic around!
I would really value any feedback you may have in this area - things you may have used or would consider using. Do you you use any adapted tableware that is functional but could look better?
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best Wishes
Katy
I forgot to say that I would value your feedback even if you DON'T use any of the adapted tableware on the market - but still have an opinion on it! Shoot any imporovement on the aesthtics would be great.  i use built up handles which means black rubber handles.  I won't spend the money on more than one set but that means I have mismatched silverware at the table.  Changing that handle to white or some other brighter color would mean I would buy more sets.

But if you really want to make a difference in the looks of adaptable equipment you should visit the bathroom/hygeine areas.  Sick hospital aqua permeates these product.  Disabled doesn' mean we like ugly
I agree Buckeye. Most disabled products are ugly looking.
I have a set of foam removable handles for my cutlery, they fit onto various things and come in various colours...I have red ones I use at xmas and valentines dinner...lolThanks. I have been discussing shower seats with some people with MS for a while - so that maybe on the future projects list. The reason I'm looking at tableware is that I have a background in Ceramics. Could you just clarify what you mean by hospital aqua? Do you mean the colour?

yeah hospital aqua is a color...you know that kind of sickly light green that you see in hosptials..ooh ugly!!  The shower chairs are ugly too..white plastic isn't much better

Someone's husband, I -think- it was Kelstev's, bought inexpensive kitchenware, removed the handles and used them to create an attractive and functional set of flatware.

I have searched for the post, but just cannot locate it at this time. Maybe she will see this and point us in the right direction to see the photos...
