Walmart Pharmacy | Arthritis Information

 

So I changed to Walmart Pharmacy back when they first introduced their prescriptions.  Now I am really wondering if I made the right choice.

We are with wal-mart pharmacy, and they blow! They are closer than the others, but that is about it.

My parents tried two different local Wal-mart pharmacies and had nothing but problems at each one.  Wrong pills, wrong counts, out of stock... they switched back to Walgreens.  I use a local chain (Jewel-Osco) and have had 1 mistake in 10 years from them. Three years ago,  I broke my arm and  it took about 6 hours to get xrays and cast, they called in pain pills to walgreens and told me to stop on way home to get them.  it had been awhile since they called it in and I was hurting,  they had not given me anything. Got to Walgreens at 9:40 they close at 10, and was told they hadn't have time to fill it, I would have to come back tomorrow or go to next town that was open 24 hours and wait for it to be filled.  I got mad, which didn't do anygood,  like I tried to tell them,  I had a standard tranmisson and was haveing trouble changing gears with one arm and it was very painful. they didn't care.   I went home and took husband's pain pills and  called the next day and changed drug stores.  Walgreens  are so busy here, it takes 7 or 8 hours to fill.  I'm at a small local drug store that delivers to your home for free and when I went to walmart to get my Salsalate filled, they wanted .00 for it  even tho it was on the .00 list (said it wasn't the same)  so I asked my drug store and they are filling it for .00.  It pays to call around and get the best price.I've had no issues with our 2 Walmart pharmacies.............If you're filling scripts at Walmart or any pharmacy that advertise .00/mo script, be sure to have them run it through your insurance as well for a cost comparison. There are some scripts that are less than .00/mo and if you're just paying the pharmacy w/o using your insurance you may be paying more.    An example is folic acid.  I just picked up my 90-day script at my pharmacy and the cost was .01 with my insurance.  Had I gone to Walmart and just asked for the 90-day w/o using insurance the cost would be .00.  I use the pharmacy at my supermarket. Often they don't have the full amount of pills the prescription was for so I have to make two trips but since I shop there it's not really a problem. There are always plenty of pills to get me through. One pharmacist is very knowlegable- the other one is a goof.I live in a small town and am lucky enough to have a locally owned Rexall pharmacy. It's downtown, across from where I work, and the husband and wife owners are both pharmacists. They know me and I know them, they never make an error, they are professional in their billing, and always available for answering questions and giving opinions on medications. I shudder to think of going to a giant corporation for my drug needs. Hillhoney,I bet you are right about where Wal-Mart gets their pills. It's okay for them but not for us. I am not a fan of Wal-Mart and never shop there - probably because I own a small business.

I just switched from wal-mart.  My prescriptions where never ready on time, even when  called in days in advance.  It was like they would wait until I got there to fill it and I would have to wait over an hour for it.  Their worker's, not all but most are pretty rude and don't seem to care.

I work for a large grocery chain and I am a union worker. I've worked hard to get the pay I do and find it appalling that the associates at Walmart do the same thing I do but at minimum wage. You get what you pay for, so it's not surprising that people have problems. I'm very lucky that I know my pharmacists very well, and go to them for a lot of my questions. I'll get off my soap box now!I understand what you're saying, Allymom, I really do.  But I also have to do anything I can to cut costs.  My insurance has a ,000 deductible, so I pay for all my prescriptions, at least until we get close to the end of the year.  We're barely surviving as it is, so I need cheap!  Hill Honey try a walgreens to see if they have the meds. I don't know if you have it there where you live but try it if you do. Give them a call. I order all my meds for a couple of years now from mail service. But now they have a cvs in our town so I can oreder them there. I totally get what you are saying and I know how lucky I am to have union insurance. Walmart is just one of those subjects that gets mw going everytime. I may be a Walmart hater but I never hold it against anyone who shops there. Do you have a jewell osco by you? I think they have a program that they will match competitors price too. I use mail order for my Enbrel and I also love it. So easy, they call me when I use my 3rd injection and set up a date to ship it out. So nice.
Hubby and I have had no problems with walmart at all.  Guess we have been lucky.  And they tell us when we can buy over the counter.  The pharmacist is a local guy that everyone seems to know and that might make a difference. GG

I think you're right, it does make a difference. No matter where we get our prescriptions, we should have a good relationships with our pharmacist. It's important that we trust the person giving us our drugs. I take a lot of mdication and need to feel like I can gaurentee that they are filled correctly.The wal-marts in my area are so crowded there's no way you're going to get personal attention in those places. I used to use them years and years ago before I started having so many prescription needs. It was ok for occational needs but when I'm on so many different things I felt like it was important that I go to a smaller pharmacy for my needs. The pharmacist always has time to talk to me and the people there know me by name. You can't get that at Wal-Mart because they are way too busy. When they do that my scrips in a day there is bound to be mistakes. I went once to a Walmart pharmacy and it was terrible.  My doctor sent the script there by accident.  I often use my mail order except for when I'm trying a new drug, antibiotics or painmeds.  Good luck, I do believe that other pharmacies are matching Walmarts pricing.  I was also told that it is difficult for pharmacies to get their drug shipments.  That makes me wonder if the mega pharmacies (like mail order Medco) is buying up alot of the meds and since they are the bigger customer, so they get the lion's share of the shipments; then the rest get what's left...don't mind me; I am just very suspicous today.  It has been terrible at work today.  HGI am going to do a little research to see what the price lists are for some of the other pharmacies in the area.  We don't don't have Jewel Osco, but we do have Walgreens and I believe Target has prescriptions as well.  Each store has a different list of what they offer for , so I will see what matches my list the best. I use Rosauers and they are great. Have a drive through window which is so nice. prescriptions include up to a 30-day supply of covered drugs at commonly prescribed dosages. prescriptions include up to a 90-day supply of covered drugs at commonly prescribed dosages. Physician permission may be required to change a 30-day prescription to a 90-day prescription.

*These drugs may be priced higher in CA, HI, MN, MT, PA, RI, TN, WI, and WY. Please ask your Target Pharmacist for specific pricing in these states.
Karen, get off the generic thyroid medication! My endocrinologist always writes do not substitute on my Levoxyl prescription....at one time I switched to the generic Levothyroxine and it really messed with my thyroid panel.Brisen. there are many doctors that refuse to prescribe the generics because for some reason, patients do not do as well and they seem to keep their levels labile. This is interesting.Jas, I had no idea that you could get his many meds for 4 bucks.   I am going to start using these stores for my meds. I pay 19 for Nadolol. Another place worth checking out is Costco...they're very competitive with their prices.

The target list has everything I take except I use the 100 mg. Diclofenac.  I have tried the 75 and it just doesn't cut it, unfortunately.
