Wishing for some Pred | Arthritis Information

My, am I having some pain.  Both shoulders, elbows, wrists and hands.  I did some painting last week and then some work at stress has sent me into a tailspin.  good news, I go to the dr. tuesday, so we'll see what he has to say.  I would just about pay big $ for some pred right now

Phats
Geez.  Hope you get over it soon.  I always have pred on hand just in case I need it.  I avoid taking it, but as you know, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.  maybe Monday you can get a prescription just to have, ya know?Hope you feel better soon.  Hopefully your doc will give you something good on Tuesday!

Hope it doesn't last too long

I agree,...might not be a bad idea to have some pred on hand for situations like this.

Hope you feel better soon Phats.

So what is safe to take with Prednisone, where you can get on and then off of it?  What's the norm?
It was so hard to get off Pred the first time I was on it.  I swear it is the devil drug.  I swore never to get on it again.  I might do a medrol pack or something.  It is a good idea to have something on hand for times like this.  I haven't been this bad in a long, long time.   (which is good).  I don't think my arava is doing the trick.  Just a couple more days to hang on and then I'll have something else to do.  I do know that heat packs seem to help me, so I'll try those tonight.  I know I'm tired of being in bed!  My body just wouldn't cooperate with me today.  But, tomorrow is another day and has to be better than today
Thanks for all the well wishes!

I always have some pred on hand for emergencies especially if I go away. Yep, a Medrol dose pack is exactly what you need right now. Feel better soon Phats!

Aww, Phats!! I'm so sorry to hear you're in miserable pain!! Maybe you can call the office Monday and see if they can squeeze you in so you don't have to wait until Tuesday? I hope the heat provides you some relief. Feel better soon!! *gentle hugs*

Feel better soon. Hope you make it until Tuesday.

My RD is only in the office on Tuesdays, so I have to wait until then.  I'm thinking of changing too for that reason and because he is so conservative.  I guess that is OK, but not when  you are in pain.  I'm just surprised because I have felt really pretty good for a while now.  But, I got blindsided today.  That just goes to show that this disease is relentless to everyone who has it.

Thanks for listening to my pity pot tonight.  It sucks because none of my friends or family have RA so they sure don't understand.

Phats

I always have a box of Medrol and a handful of Vicodin tucked away for a pesky flare, since they seem to arrive at the most inopportune and inconvenient times!!!

Feel better soon!
So what is a medrol pack?  I loved/hated prednisone and it took me almost 3 years to get off of it.  However, I have been in a bad flare for almost 3 weeks and wondered if I could
safely take some prednisone for a bit and then get off without getting "hooked" on it again?  I have 1mg and 5 mg pills at home?
Hi Phats, how about your GP or ER just for a prescription?  Good luck, know how you feel, regards Janie.I'm like you right now with my back. It's been horrible the last week and I have been doing so good lately. I go to the doctor next week too and if things aren't any better I've going to ask for a shot of cortisone. That might be something to consider Phats. My doctor gives me these that are good for all over pain.....not shot directly into an achey joint. You might ask about that.

I prefer a shot myself. Yes, they hurt like hell....but their really not as bad as the ones you get directly into a joint. Those are super painful....but these aren't as bad and they work quickly without the predisone taper.
Like others I keep a stash of prednisone just in case. Perhaps a trip to the urgent care center is in order: Tuesday sounds like a long time off for the pain you are having.

Feel better soonest!

You said you have a lot of stress at work - what kind of work do you do?  Do you have to do anything really physical, or stand on your feet a lot?

Hey Hillhoney,

I am still not feeling well, but better than yesterday.  I am a nurse, so I have a physically demanding job.  Thankfully, I have been off the past couple of days and  could just relax and rest.  I haven't felt this way in a long, long time.  Guess the honeymoon is over, huh?  I have an appt on Tuesday and I have a list of "requests"

A Medrol pack is a punchcard of 21 4-mg methylprednisolone tablets, to be taken in a declining dosage over 6 days:  6 tabs the first day, then 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 tabs on subsequent days.  Also called a "burst pack."

So if you have 1 mg. prednisone pills at home, you could safely do the above script?
Hang in there Phats...........  I'm hoping you get what you want at the RD visit......  [QUOTE=Debrakay]A Medrol pack is a punchcard of 21 4-mg methylprednisolone tablets, to be taken in a declining dosage over 6 days:  6 tabs the first day, then 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 tabs on subsequent days.  Also called a "burst pack."

Please let us know what your doc says and whether doc puts you on the pred route. am also having major problems with shoulders and elbows. are you having any muscular problems in the arms? am seeing rheumy in two weeks. am wondering whether pred isn't the answer here... all best apple
