i think i overdid it | Arthritis Information

well i decided to celebrate my birthday the usual way

eating lots of yummy food

apparently it doesnt seem like it was such a good idea now
my mom sayd she wouldnt care what my blood sugar was
since it's my b-day and i wanna celebrate it

but i think i mightve overdid it

i finished lunch maybe almost an hour ago
now i have a headache
my vision is slightly blurry and this is weird but, my right eye is sorta twitching a little lol
and im a little shaky
and i just feel sick

all i ate was:
chicken fingers with cheese sticks
strawberry lemonade
a bowl of popcorn
oyster crackers
and a HUGE ice cream desert with chocolate cake and hot fudge with oreo pieces

and the WORST part is
tommorow i have the usual big blood test, the one at the place
and if its really high then, im gonna be in trouble

do you realize it's not about "being in trouble" or passing a test?  This is a 24x7 battle for your current and future health, not something to lol about. well when i say lol, it doesnt really mean what it means
i say lol alot, usually when it doesnt mean anything
its not that i think my high blood sugar is funny, cuz im not lol'ing
ok

Star honey, you need someone to monitor your blood sugar.  This is a serious disease Star and you could go into a coma or worse.  Being shaky with blurred vision is a bad sign. Please have your Mother help you Star....Please? Promise?!

well we're supposed to check it two hours after dinner, so then i'll know how high it is exactly. since im not supposed to check any other time of the day.

but i had checked it before we went out to eat, just so i would know what it was. it had been 187 then.

ok i guess i promise, but what should i do if its high? cuz, its not like i know what to do.
since i dont use insulin or anything, theres basically nothing to do.

well, i heard drinking water lowers it a little, and exercising is supposed to help.

anyways i just remembered, tommorow is the day my mom has to call the diabetes doctor.
cuz its monday.

oh i wished this diabetes thing would hurry up and be done with. but im sure it'll be at least a few more months, i still got ALOT of prednisone to get done with, im still takin 40 mg a day.
you need to talk to your doctor about all this, not seek medical advice on a messageboard. well, then i have to wait till tommorow
or later... it depends on what happens
Star
it's okay that you are asking for advice from us as long as you are listenng to your docs. That's what we are here for, to bounce ideas off each other and just supper each other in general. Keep a good attitude and have a good birthday.Star, I  don't know too much about diabetes, but I do know about prednisone, and you don't do  from 40 to 0 in a few months.  It took me over 2 years to get off and that was with cheating. (going down more then Doc. said)  The doc. needs to tell how long and if it will go down when you are at a lower dose or if it takes a while after your off.   We want you to learn to take care of your self, We want you around for your next BD.  We like you and we care what happens to you, please listen.

boy I meed to learn how to spell
rusty2009-07-12 13:05:49yeah i listen to my doc's too.
altho they dont really say nothin much.
i only saw my diabetes doctor ONCE. in the ER back in May, i never saw her again.

well, rusty. i just sayd a few months, cuz thats what my rhuematologist doctor person sayd, he sayd by november maybe.

just, back in the middle of june i had been takin 90 mg a day.
he lowers it like 10 mg every time i see him, and i see him next monday again.
Star, I hope so, it's no fun to be on, has a lot of side effect long term.   No two people are the same, so just go by what  your Doctor tell you and do take care of yourself.   Sounds like a broken record ( Do you even know what a record is, I keep forgetting they don't make them anymore...)  I hate it when  a kid is sick,  I want you to enjoy life.yeah it has alot of side effects
theyre so annoying

but the lower we drop the dose of it
the better the side effects r getting
so thats good
ooh i DIDNT overdo it
im ok, yay
better than yesterday
i checked my blood

it was only 168
i thought would be over 200
but it wasnt

im ok, so thats good
Honestly- and I'm no doctor....I think your diabetes is prednisone induced. Of course you have to be careful- but it's your 14th birthday- enjoy-today- with no worries or regrets!

Pred and diabetes is a bad combination. I hope that you are checking your sugars at least 4X/day.

Yes,  prednisone and diabetes is certainly a bad mix. As hard as I watch my diet after I started the prednisone my blood sugars soared even with the careful diet and I had to go from 500mg of Metformin a day to 1000mg a day.  Please check with your dr.  yeah, wanttobe
the doctors sayd the diabetes was caused by the prednisone
thats why they call it steroid induced diabetes

and thats why the diabetes doctor (endocrinologist) wants my blood sugar lower now, since we lowered the dose of prednisone

now, if i ate what i did yesterday, a month ago
then id probably be over 300

once im done with the prednisone, i'll be all normal again
the doctors are almost absolutely sure
