Hey guys...

I am heading out to dinner and will get dessert since I can't eat after midnight.  Tomorrow I am having sinus surgery.  Not really looking forward to it--obviously.  I just don't think it is all that necesary.  I do get repeated sinus infections and the ENT did a scan back in June.  It showed tons of scar tissue and a very deviated septum(broke my nose in college playing rugby).    I have had numerous rounds of antibiotics-but I can't kick the infection.  The rheumy doesn't like the chronic infection and the biologics at the same time.  ENT keeps stressing how serious a sinus infection can get if it is allowed to linger.  So...here we go.  I did request the fairly simple procedure.  If it doesn't work, we can get more invasive later.  So, he is going to repair the septum-that is the main problem.  Nothing can drain.  He was surprised that it hadn't messed with my breathing more.  Then he will insert a balloon into each sinus and inflate it to widen the passages.  He won't be cutting or removing anything-that should speed up the healing.

The bigger issue here is the jaw opening.  I am right around 23mm...pretty pathetic.  If you put your first two fingers together..that is about how wide it is.  I had my presurgical testing last week and two anesthesiologists both came in to see the opening.  It is right on the boarderline of being doable.  They feel that when I am knocked out, the muscles relaxing will allow a bit more of an opening.  They promised that they wouldn't force the jaw.  So basically, if I wake up and have no pain-they couldn't do it.

So, after dinner tonight I will come home and probably clean the house.  I never sleep before a surgery so I might as well put the energy to use.  Saw the pain dr. today.  He is not impressed with the rituxan.  He just refilled meds and I go back and see him right after the Duke visit.  Aug. 18th can't come fast enough.

Hope everybody is having as painfree a day as possible!

If it is a sinus wash it should do you wonders. Not the worst surgery in the world. Yet not lots of fun I understand. In the long run it has helped me greatly. Well this is the first sinus infection I have had all year for me thats pretty good as compared to always. Had mine done January 5th. Best of Luck. Take it easy for a while.
