A friend of mine has just had a morphine implant after sufferering from excruciating back problems. Shhe is still in ICU but doing really well and should be  home from hospital soon. Has anyone ever  had this done or know somebody who has.?I have seen these used quite a bit. The ones I'm familiar with are implanted in the abdominal area and seem to work very well. It provides a constant infusion of pain med into the spine. It should really improve her quality of life. She will have to go in periodically and get the morphine refilled but that is a very minor procedure. Intrathecal drug delivery is an effective and rational way to treat intractable pain. I have seen the system used for post-operative care and for end of life cancer pain management as well as for incapacitating post-trauma pain.

I am sure your friend will reap great benefits from having the procedure.

Cheers, Shug
