OT: My 2 new BP meds | Arthritis Information

So... hubby went and picked up my meds today and 10 bottles of them. UGH!

Anyways...

cardiologist RXed me Metoprolol ER 50mg & Metoprolol Tart 25mg.

The metoprolol Tart I am to take as needed every 8hrs for palpatations.

The metoprolol ER I am to take everyday. He said morning first and if it makes me feel weird to take it at night before I go to sleep.

I have been having palaptations alot this week. Mostly when I lay down to go to sleep is when I notice it, or when I am short of breath thru the day. So... looks like I am going to be taking the Tart a lot. Joonie, I take 50mg metoprolol tartrate (the immediate-release version) twice a day, every day for suppression of wacky arrhythmia, and I take 1/2 tablet (25mg) as needed for breakthrough palpitations.  It works well for me.  Occasionally I need to take a xanax (0.25mg) because the metoprolol won't totally suppress the palpitations, but that's usually when I'm way too stressed over stupid crap and/or drinking way too much caffeine and not getting enough sleep (goes hand-in-hand with stress!!!). My RD has a program on her laptop that tells her of interactions and stuff like that. She is the one who RXs most of my meds anyways and I update my meds list every visit and she puts them into that program. Just like before she RXs me a new med she puts it into that program on her laptop to see if it interacts with anything. That is why she keeps saying I am limited on my anti-inflammatories, because of me being allergic to sulfa and my meds.

No, have not had a pharmasist evaluate my meds.
Cardiologist said Coreg was just useless for rapid pulse.

I do not have much caffiene, only on Satudays and I only have 1-2 cans of coke. My sleep has been pretty good since starting the lyrica & mirapex. I only wake up like 1-2 times a night now, as compared to no sleep or waking up every 30 mins to hour.

I am still not clear on how to take the Tart, so I will be calling tomorrow to get a better idea of it all.
Another thing I have found through trial and error is the brand of metropolol...I can only take the brand Toprol, I've tried all the generics ( there are several and the one I was on was pulled voluntarily in the US) they had way too many side effects for me..so I am stuck paying for the brand name. My ins covers most of it with my Dr's insistance though. Good luck and keep a chart!Keep a chart? You mean of when I take the Tart? My BP & Pulse? Or all?

Sorry I posted and ran....was freezing corn and had to run lol

When I said keep a chart I meant keep track of the brand of metropolol you are given at the pharmacy, there are several companies that make it and they are not all the same. Ethex Corp was pulled from the shelves here in NC...did not meet FDA regulations...Par Pharms is another generic metoprolol I had a lot of side effects from. Keep track of the brand you are given and note how they make you feel. I've been into it about a year and finally feel normal after 3 months of Topral XL Brand. Before.. I was sleeping sometimes 18 hrs a day, had stomach and gastro problems, headaches, and dangerously fluctuating BP and heart rate, and uncontrollable depression. My energy level was zero. I had no idea this med was causing all the problems...my Dr nor pharmacy told me a thing I saw it on the news and researched myself

Ethex and CVS are in litigation now...they never told anyone and doled them out anyway

Thanks for the info. Will look into it. I've always taken the Mylan brand.  For the 50mg tablets, they're pink and say "M 32" on the plain side and scored on the other.  Never had a problem with them.  The 25mg Mylan tablets are white and say "M 18" on the plain side. Are these because of your RA or something else? This is exactly what I have been having lately. Most of the time it's a bedtime when I try to lay on my side, but I also get it when I am doing nothing but watching tv.
Naw, it's something I've had for a long time.  I've been through the whole barrage of cardiac tests - all come back saying it's just an annoying but benign arrhythmia.
