A Couple years ago I was diagnosed with Arthritis in my back it has come and gone over the past 2 years but now something else is going on with me.. what started as a back pain then went down to my buttocks now to my right leg.. here are the symptoms i am expeirencing.. any idea what it could be...

-          Occasional muscle spasms in both legs (not painful).

-          When get up from a chair after taking a few steps feel right leg tighten up and then get a very sharp pain in the back of my leg from the upper right thigh down the back of my leg (feels like a muscle cramp).   Also feel a little stiff in my 1st few steps

-          I can feel the tightening happening on both legs just below my hip but the sharp shooting pain doesn’t happen in the left leg.  When touching that spot on both legs I can feel the soreness

-          When sleeping at night I can feel this tightening happen and it wakes me up not very painful but it gets tight to where I have to sleep in another position then it goes away (happens in both legs)

-          Back of right leg muscle feels sore when I touch it

-          Certain spots in my leg feel tender when touching them

-          Had 3 light bruises on my upper right leg where the stiffness feeling is but they went away

-          When I get up in the morning I have to walk off the pain and stretch before it goes away.  It generally hurts for about 15 min or so.  This is a different kind of pain than the shooting pain in my leg.  Kind of feels like a cramp when I wake up

-          Can walk or run with little or no pain.  I do the treadmill for 30 minutes with no problems.   Feels much better the more I walk & standing is painless

-          This whole problem started about 6 weeks ago in my lower back after I had gained weight back.  The pain in my back then went down to my buttocks then it went to my leg where it has been like this for the past 5 weeks.  Can still feel it in my back and buttocks a little now and then

-          Hardest activity to do is putting my sock on my right foot can be very painful in the back of my leg (feels like a muscle)

-          Have currently lost 10-12 pounds since the pain started but nothing has changed.  Lost from 232-234 to 222.  I am 6 foot 2 ¼

There are, literally, hundreds of types of arthritis. The best source of information regarding your symptoms is your physician. Allow me to suggest that you make an appointment with the physician who first diagnosed you and then if you remain without a firm diagnosis and treatment plan get a second, third, and even forth opinion.

Good luck, Shug
Go to a dotcor it could be so many things. You need some bloodwork done and a physical for starters. Well if you are loosing wieght deffinately have something going on. See a doctor ASAP and keep a diary of all of your symtoms. Let us know what they decide.
Well if you are loosing wieght deffinately have something going on.
Milly, I certainly may have misread bagman's post, but he seems to indicate that he purposely lost weight as his symptoms were exaggerated after he had gained.
that is correct im losing on purpose to hope that the symptoms go away.. but so far no luckI would have my back re-assessed by a competent orthopedist. I've never heard of osteo or rheumatoid coming and going (rheumatoid does sometimes have remissions, but the damage it's done still exists.) It sounds like a classic case of nerve impingement in your back (also called spinal stenosis). I could be wrong -- but it sounds so similar to my case (and i've lost 40 pounds recently)

I know you say you've gained, but still sounds like nerve impingement to me.Oh I some how missed the part about the treadmill. Still it does not hurt to get some blood work done. Arthritis or even low potassium could cause muscle pain and stiffness. My legs bother me the most when my potassium is low.So sorry for your pain!  Gosh, I would go back for another evaluation and hopefully, some game plan to ease your suffering!  Great job on the weight loss, I know that it helps RA patients to lose weight!

I sure hope you find answers soon and feel better!

It sounds like spinal stenosis to me as well. My husband has it and he describes exactly what you are. Spinal Stenosis is also an Arthritis.
Go to the doc for a through check up.
