My jug of nystatin | Arthritis Information

I have such a problem with thrush.  I just took an antibiotic for 2 days until I learned I didn't have strep throat and that's all it took.

My PCP prescribed a huge bottle of nystatin and and also gave me a prescription for difflucan which I had read about in this forum.

It's been a couple of weeks I wasn't taking the medication as regularly as I should, I picked up the pace.

Now that I've read the side effects of diflucan I'm scared to take it.

Any advice would be appreciated.  Is this ailment common with auto-immune disorders?

Any tips on how to deal with this, alternative methods, anything would be appreciated!
I take diflucan monthly and have never had any problems with it.Thanks for the reply rocky.  Do you mean you just take it once a month?Dotty; I wonder if peroxide would help at all? I use the weaker strength peroxide as a mouthwash several times a week as a teeth whitening tool. I had heard about this for years and finally decided to try it. There's really no taste at all...and my teeth are whiter than ever (and I'm a smoker). I just swish with it for about 30 seconds several times a week; not 10 minutes daily like you read below. I'm not sure I could manage that with anything! I just did a google search and copied this from the first site I peeked at. Definately do some more research to see if this might be something you want to try. There seems to be conflicting opinions on wheather this is safe or not. I'm not recommending it.....just suggesting you look into it. When I googled it tons of hits popped up. I realized at that time I need to read more about this myself before continuting this routine myself.

1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and
hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I do it when I
bathe or shower.) No more canker sores and your teeth will be whiter
without expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash-
Truth! But Limited Use!

The Merck Manuals recommended diluting the 3% hydrogen peroxide 50 percent with water, but suggest it as a rinse and part of a treatment for trench mouth, for example.  The FDA has approved 3% solutions of hydrogen peroxide for use as a mouthwash.  Most sources said to use it only for a short time, however, such as part of a treatment of a mouth infection.  A report from Well-Connected (written or edited by physicians at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital) recommended against extended use, saying that overuse may actually damage cells and soften tooth surfaces. We were not able to find any authoritative information about hydrogen peroxide and canker sores.
