Don't know if you remember but my GF in Brissie (dxd with severe RA) is still going to see her rheumy, still taking cortizone (in large quantities) as well as plaq & mtx --- but rang last night in tears as it isn't working & her doctor is neither sympathetic nor proactive ....

Does anyone have any clues how to ease severe RA pain (and yes I mean ease not get rid of) or any other ideas I could tell her about?

Maz

PS : Remember there isn't too many good rheumys up where she lives so changing doctors would be a major drama - it took her 10mths to get in to see this one!

Tell her to go into hot tub if she can that will relief it for awhile.
I do feel for her because I have alot of pain to. Angel
Thanks Angel,
Will email her in a minute ----

I know of the vast distances in Australia that sometimes need to be journeyed in order to receive health care and I certainly empathize with your friends dilemma. However, my advice would be to find a new physician. Trust, faith, and respect are as important in the patient/physician relationship as they are in a marriage.

If her treatment is not working and her physician in not responsive to that fact, she is not doing herself any favour by remaining under his/her care. I would ask which trauma is more major: an uncaring, non-responsive physician who is not adequately treating a chronic illness or the difficulties inherent in finding a physician who will adequately address her illness and her complaints.

Best wishes for your friends relief and your peace of mind.

When I had severe pain I took lots of very hot showers, used lots of icy hot, used many microwave wraps, begged for and finally got oxycontin... This was until my meds kicked in which of course is the goal. Ditto for me.
I'm not sure what to think of what my myropractor recently told me.  He suffers from RA and tells me he doesn't take any prescription meds for the inflammation and pain.  He drinks a cup of warm water each nite with a table spoon of apple cider vinegar with the "mother" in it.  Also adds 1 tsp of honey and drinks it like tea.  Has anyone else heard of this??
