Arthritis Information -its for my mum!

hi there, im totally new to this and came here because my mum asked me to find something out about the emense pain shes in! It horrible to see her going through and you cant do anything to help!

i came here by chance really but wondered if i could find the answers here?

About 4 weeks ago my mum was at a party and helped this old lady from falling over she was quite well rounded shall we say and my mum pulled her shoulder by helping her. She went to the docs a few days later, told him what happened and that she was getting pins and niddles through her hands and up her arms. He gave her pain killers and anti inflamitarys and sent her on her way!

That did bugger all good

Please a massive cry for help from a 24 year old in Yorkshire UK i need to get help for my mum does any body know anything that can help her! please reply!!! i just dont know what to do!

Thank you. Sorry to go on!

Your mum needs relief from her pain and an accurate diagnosis. If she is in pain after being prescribed painkillers then tell the doctor and insist she be given something more effective or see another doctor that is prepared to do this. Your mother’s pain needs to be relieved while the cause of her condition is investigated to determine why she is suffering this way.

If the doctors cannot determine what is wrong then try and find a specialist that can determine what is causing her so much pain-a specialist in skeletal problems perhaps. It's hard to imagine helping someone up could do this unless she has done some damage to a disc and it is pressing on a nerve or something along these lines. If she dislocated her shoulder this would surely have been picked up so it is more likely she has done something that has caused a nerve to be damaged or pressed on causing the pain.

We aren’t doctors here so you need to find a good doctor-not a GP but a specialist of some sort.

Pain can be felt in one area but originate from damage in another area so it isn't necessarily her shoulder where the damage is. I have had very painful shoulders in the past but the damage is in my neck.

You certainly shouldn't give up because the doctors can't find a reason for her pain. You need to find a more skilled doctor that won't give up until he has determined the cause of the problem or will refer her to a specialist that deals with these sort of problems.

Doctors in a hospital might be skilled in diagnosing a lot of common ailments but it sounds like your mum needs someone that specialises in skeletal pain to determine if your mum did damage to her skeleton that has caused nerve damage because pain travels along nerves and it is likely something went out of wack when your mum strained to help the person up.  In the meantime your mum needs adequate pain relief until the cause can be determined.

Good luck with your mum and don't give up and accept that a cause cannot be determined as this isn't acceptable in this day and age.

Thanks very much dragon! after not such a rest full night its nice to hear some words of advice! spoke to my father who has a friend (DOC) who speacialises in arthitius and bones but with children but he thinks he knows what could be wrong with her?! he has given my dad some names of other specialists that could maybe help mum which is great! now its just a case of coming up with a soon enough date and the money to do so!

i dont care how much it costs, i just want to see my mum get better!

i understand about what you were saying regards the shoulder but the doc she first saw at the hospital the first night she went in said he didnt think it was linked to her shoulder and this is why they couldnt determine where she was getting the inflamation and pain from?! after i wrote the email above last night i spoke to dad and he said hes really worried to, i thought i was the only one as he had been pretty quite on the whole matter but then he is suffering from a massive ammount of back pain himself so?! but its nice to know that he is worried too and wants to help!

at least now we can work together to find some help for mum and hopefully stop this horrible pain for her!

Thank you for your help from the other side of the world! seems very strange to have help from you there but im quite new to the whole information page thing only used to hotmail and thats about it!
