The 28th... cannot come any faster can it? | Arthritis Information

Sorry, to complain or even whine.

But...

I am tired of being in pain! Last night my hips hurt, mostly my right side. It was in the same area as I keep telling every doctor that there is a "hard" something and it hurts from the outside of my hip to the front of my thigh. MRIs were took, by one Dr and said nothing wrong. He even felt what I was talking about. It has been like this for over a year, and the "hard area" is just getting bigger and more up my hip area now.

Last night I took the darvocet, pain was really bad. And then 45 mins later I took the ultram. STILL! The pain was still there! I even took a muscle relaxer to see if that would help and nothing.

Finally... I knocked out from the Mirapex & Lyrica. Those two meds just knock me out! If I try to stay awake after taking them, I feel "drunk" and if I try to stay up past that part, I feel sick to my stomach. So... good thing she has me taking them at bedtime!

I am just wishing the 28th will get here, so I can stripe down to my underwear and show my RD that "hard" area again. There is much more of the "hard" area now. And it feels swelled, but not like an inflammation swelled, but like a HUGE bug bite swell. It is hard to explain. It is also warm to the touch too.

I hope she can tell me what it is on my next visit! I told her about my last visit, but she said it was brusitis(sp?). It is not that, because this is where the joint to my hip actually is! It is not down on the outside of my thigh, but on the outside of my hip where the joint is and runs diagonally to the inside of my thigh down to my knee. The pain runs from my hip to my knee. It causes a great deal of shooting pain in both my hip & knee.
Yikes joonie- it sux to be you!
Sure hope it stops hurting before the 28th but if not- hope they can find out what it is and fix it!

Joonie: Does the following explanation sound anything like what you are experiencing?

Symptoms

Bursitis of the shoulder Bursitis of the hip Bursitis of the elbow

If you have bursitis, you may notice:

  • A dull ache or stiffness in the area around your elbow, hip, knee, shoulder, big toe or other joints
  • A worsening of pain with movement or pressure
  • An area that feels swollen or warm to the touch
  • Occasional skin redness in the area of the inflamed bursa

Bursitis of the hip doesn't cause any visible swelling or skin redness because the bursae are located beneath some of your body's bulkiest muscles. In this type of bursitis, pain is primarily over the greater trochanter, a portion of your thighbone (femur) that juts out just below where the bone joins the hip.

Hi watchingwolf!

No, that does not sound like it, that is why I say it is not that. It is an actual muscle that is hard. It "softened up" that one time I went to the ER and they gave me those shots, and it "softened up" again when I took the samples of skelekin (sp?). But since then nothing. It is a hard area. from the outside of my hip and runs where the crease is when you sit down to the inside of my thigh. It has to be a muscle or ligament.

This is the muscle I am thinking is bothering me. It is just how my pain runs from outter hip to the inside of my thigh thru to my knee.

It was a muscle relaxer called skelaxin. There were only 3 of them, and I took those over a year ago. My insurance would not pay for them.

I am sorry to hear of your knee and that you will be having to have replacement soon.
oohhh thats the IT (iliotibial) band....that muscle can be difficult to loosen up once it spams...and if you are lipmping or otherwise favoring that leg then the muscle will begin to contract and shorten complicating the problem.   Have you ever done any stretching of that muscle groupHi Buckeye!

Nope, have never done stretches of that muscle group. It is hard to straighten my leg out all the way at the knee.

I do not think I favor my right leg, I think I put more strain on it because I favor my left side. I have always favored my left leg. I do limp all the time.

Maybe my RD will agree that it is that muscle that is causing all this pain and problem for me, and I can go try physical therapy in town, since it seems like this is a common "sports injury".... meaning that people who have this type of problem with that muscle are mostly runners. HAHAHAHA! I do not run, have not ran since I was a kid... I think last time I ran I was 9 years old.
if you can't straighten the leg your IT band is being affected.  I always throught my left leg was weaker...my trainer kept insisting it was my right leg...it took me a while to believe him but he was rightJoonie,
See if you can get a cortisone injection in the area. I had pain on the side of my hip that traveled down. Very painful it even bothered me in the small of my back...Long story short..Bursa inflamed..Injection took care of this for me...what a relief ...might be worth a try.
Best wishes,
Lisa
Thanks! We shall see on the 28th what it is! RD said last time she thought it was bursa and wanted to drain and inject both sides. But... ya'll know how big of a baby I am about needles.

Thank you all for all the replies. Gives me more to think about and ask my RD when I go to see her again Tuesday.

This pain needs to stop and go away. It is even bothering me thru the day now. Before it was just at night. But yesterday I was misrable until I took the darvocet and the ultrams 45 mins after the darvocet. Still did not take away the pain, but it dulled it enough to where I could ignore it for a couple of hours. Hurts to sit, stand, or lay. I think I might need to hang from the ceiling by my feet Sorry you are having so much pain Joonie...there is nothing more distracting.  Wishing you well on Tues.

Pat
I hope you can get some answers at your appointment. I am not a big fan of needles either, but it might bring the relief you need.

The 28th is getting closer....Think hard about getting a shot if that will stop it. Bite the bullet!!

Good Luck Joonie
