Sorta OT - Dad has Bullous Pemphigoid | Arthritis Information

As some of you may know, Bullous Pemphigoid (http://www.aocd.org/skin/dermatologic_diseases/bullous_pemphigoid.html) is an auto-immune skin blistering disease, and unfortunately my 85-yr-old father has gotten it.  He's on the standard treatment of prednisone, tetracyline and nicotinamide.  But it's messing with his blood pressure, his sleep, his mood and even his voice, all of which is making him pretty depressed.  They say he'll need to be on the meds for at least 6 months, and he's upset that all this (especially the blood pressure) may interfere with their long-awaited plans of a Mediterranean cruise in October.

Being that it's auto-immune, I was wondering if anyone here has had this and has any suggestions for my father, or even suggestions on dealing with the pred effects.

I have no knowledge but I just wanted to say I feel so bad that he is suffering with this and may have to postpone a long awaited trip.

Hope it clears up faster than they anticipate.
Hope he feels better soon, and is able to make their trip.joonie,
I had never heard of this disease - the name is bad enuf, but the pic on website is scary

I want to thank you for posting this.  I think you have told me, what I need to know,   I have had blistering sore that started the last week of radiation in Nov.  I have asked every doc and medial person I've seen and no one knew what it was.  They have told me I had crabs,  it was cause by the tape,  heat, allergy.  I have try the creams and short term prednisone.  Pills and prescrition cream , It will clear up all but a few bumps then start over.  they are patches of bumps that had fluid in them, very itchey.  When I wash or itch then, they ooz out a watery like stuff, that is stickey. Its over conplete  body, head to toe.  I have an appointment on the 3th. with the skin doc. I'm sure going to ask him.  I'm sick of the sores and itch, it can drive you crazy after a while.  I hope they find out soon what it is, so it can be treated.  It's in my hair and I'm loseing a lot of hair everytime I wash it.
Sorry about your dad, if it is the same thing I have,  he's very uncompable,  hope he get to go on the cruise.  I'll be thinking about him and praying.
