Anyone use HCG inj. for their RA? | Arthritis Information

I have officially given up on the Biologics and have heard several people talk about HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) and how it has helped their RA.  I took the shots several years ago before this latest flare and do remember feeling the best I ever had  but never put two and two together.  I mentioned it to my RA doc and he shot me down so fast I didnt even see it coming.  I have decided to go back on the shots and see how it goes.  Just waiting for payday since insurance doesnt pay.

Has anyone else tried this?  If it does work, wonder why they have been keeping it from us?
I definitely would not mess w/ hormones....  as much as I believe there is a connection.. it's frightening from the Cancer perspective.

while it makes perfect sense that you would feel great while taking them.... because they encourage progesterone production just like a pregnancy and we usually feel good when pregnant....

I think it's a risky proposition.

why did you stop before?
I'm a bit confused...Is this what you are talking about?

What is HCG?

Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is a hormone that supports the normal development of an egg in a woman's ovary, and stimulates the release of the egg during ovulation.

HCG is used to cause ovulation and to treat infertility in women, and to increase sperm count in men. HCG is also used in young boys when their testicles have not dropped down into the scrotum normally. This can be caused by a pituitary gland disorder.

HCG may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

The only thing I have heard people using this for is weight loss (other than it's original intention).  I'm too scared to mess with my hormones, but I understand your frustration.  Keep us posted.

Like Phatgirl2, I have read much of the cyberole re: hCG and weight loss. I understand that some people have experienced great success with the very low calorie diet (VLCD) recommended by the hCG gurus. I have also read, after being directed there by a well-meaning friend a lengthy list of posts made by advocates of hCG and VLCD that include anecdotal tales or miraculous relief from RA pain.

From a wholly personal and fully subjective point of view, I would investigate anti-inflammatory diets and/or elimination diets before hCG.

Best wishes and please let us know how you are doing! Shug

[/QUOTE] oops  forgot to type my message before I hit post.  In reply to the above.  Yes it is the same thing.  It is provided by a "diet" Dr.  I'm sure it is diffent dosage.

Babs10, I stopped before because I got laid off and couldnt afford it anymore.  Insurance doesnt pay for it.

Thanks for the replies, I was wondering if I was the only one out there that had thought of this or heard of it.  I was beginning to think the Dr's were hiding something from us.  I really dont think it could do more harm than the mess I have gotten into with the biologics and the Prednisone.
Good luck.
