I woke up this morning feeling utterly horrible.  Headache, dizzy, achy, etc.  I thought perhaps I was coming down with something... then when I went to the bathroom I noticed that my output was quite concentrated. oh u reminded me, thnx

i had told myself id be drinkin water alot more now
but it hasnt happened

at first i drank like 6 or 7 glasses a day
but as the week went on i had gotten lazy
i better start drinking it again

thnx for the reminder, water must be important... i think
I've been replacing a lot of water with sugar free green tea lately. Not sure if that's good or bad but I'm really tired of all the bathroom trips.... "water intake" is not limited to pure (or at least flavor and sweetener-free) water.  So yep, it counts. That's good to know because I hate water. To me drinking it is like taking medicine. yeah i dont like drinkin water either
i used to NEVER drink it, which wasnt such a good idea
so now i try to get a few glasses a day, no matter how gross it tastes

i wish we had some lemons, like at the resturants, my mom sometimes drinks water, and they put lemons in it, i wonder if the lemons make a difference, maybe it'd be sour... idk

Of course, it would not be a good idea to drink all 64 ounces (or whatever your recommended daily amount is) with Coca-cola, or Kool-aid, or some other high-calorie nutritionless beverage because the calorie count would soon soar through the roof. I've been drinking lots of water for the past few months and have gotten to where it's second nature now to drink that instead of anything with calories in it. My two exceptions are my one cup of coffee in the mornings and a glass of wine a few nights a week. OH~and Milk. I do love some skim milk which I never thought I'd say. I use to only drink whole milk but switched to skim due to the calories. Occationally I'll buy a vitimin water which has a little favor but very few calories. I've never been into those type of drinks but they don't leave any after taste in your mouth which I can't stand about other drinks.

I asked my RD last week why he thought my kidney function might have been elevated when I had my blood work done last time and he said I might have just been dehydrated or something. I'll be interested to see if it's returned to normal this time. If it isn't I'll know for sure it wasn't that because I've been drinking between 8 to 10 glasses a day.
I really should know better - I had a kidney stone 20 years ago in college.  It was summertime, I was working 60+ hours a week at an ice cream shop (which often got quite hot, with the summer heat and customers always opening the doors), and basically living on cheeseburgers, ice cream and Coke.  Yea, I know, not the healthiest of diets... but I was invincible!  Anyway, the doc said it was from being chronically dehydrated.  OMG it was wicked bad pain.  Never want to do that again!!!
It's always a balancing act - drink enough water to stay hydrated and healthy,
Having to seriously limit my fluid intake, and then accurately measure what I do drink, has been the most difficult lifestyle change I have had to face with dialysis.

As a breed and born desert rat water has always be my drink of choice and I miss pouring myself a big glass of cold water and quenching my thirst as needed. Two ounces of water just doesn't quench anything!
Addendum: now I have a nearly overpowering desire for a coke...A coke! It has probably been close to 30 years since I last drank a coke and now I want one so badly I would wrestle Jas for hers. Will you be able to drink more when the dialysis stuff gets worked out?  How about when you're actually "hooked up" - can you take a swig then?  I'm clueless when it comes to kidney disease and dialysis.I'd be interested in hearing more about your kidney situation Spelunker. Have you posted about it before? If so can you guys post a link to that discussion so I can catch up. I remember talking to you about it when my test came back elevated but it was brief.

How much can you drink in a day. 2 oz at a time sounds like torture. I'm going through 70 to 80 oz per day and can not imaging struggling with that.
I have to work really, really hard to drink anything, much less water.  I can eat a whole meal and not drink a single thing.  Makes my dr's mad!!  =)

Yes! However, now the theory is that if my kidney can "rest" via the dialysis and as my inflammation becomes tightly controlled, the % of function will increase. By severely limiting fluid intake, and thus limiting urinary output for the next 10-12 weeks it is theorized that the kidney will heal: the renal amyloidosis will not reverse, but with a bit of physical luck and a tad of medical magic the 10% function will become 30 or even 50.

Are you kidding me?! I spent most of the morning reading through all of that (Between work) and I can not believe how much you've had to indure. Bless you my dear. You're an inspiration to us all. To say "I admire you" would just be an understatement.
