well, it finally happened, Had a mental breakdown last week, just can't handle this prednisone anymore. I guess confession is good for the soul huh. I took myself off the zoloft 3 weeks ago, and the following tuesday I took barber clippers and started to shave my head. I did stop, once I got the left side down to 1/4 inch. I really look funny now.  The news I got was just too much to take.  I have huge fatty cyst in both arm pits. The surgeon said it was axilliary breat tissure, caused from the prednisone,  I also had to go to the ENT,  I have lost a lot of hearing in both ears   the exact same lose in both ears, caused from the prednisone.  have catracts on both eyes,  YUP,  from the prednisone,  losing my hair, (not from shaving) from the prednisone. I have just had it.  got very depressed, so went back on the zoloft.  I am hating what this drug is doing to me.  I have been on it since oct 2007.  still at 20 mg.  I have also gained 50 lbs, from the prednisone.  Will this ever END??????????    can't take much more.  would appreciated some encouragment.

be well

Hi Bev...I am so very sorry that things are going badly for you but you have to hang on.  The one thing that kept me going was knowing that eventually this rotten disease would go away and it did.  You should get yourself to either your PC or rheumy very quickly as it sounds like the pred is having a bad reaction on you.  There is talk of a new med for PMR called LDN that they are currently testing.  Maybe you could make this suggestion to your Dr.

Remember, there are several people on here that will be more than happy to give you a boost so please do not give up.

Take good care.

Pat

Tigger punt,

What a bad patch you have walked into  - but the people here can understand it all.

Did you take Zoflot for depression, as Pred can give you highs and lows as a side effect and it might be that Zoflot is not compatible with Pred.  Did you check it out.

Leflunomide (brand name Arava) is being trialled as an alternative to pred, but as far as I know its early days.

If you are having such a bad re-action to Pred, have your medics talked to you about Methotextrate.   It chemo based it is used for PMR.

Whatever you do, hang on in there  - you will get out to the other side - but yell and scream  at your medics. And come here and yell and scream at us.

Tigerpunt...........wow, there are some days I know where you are.
Started Pred March 06. BUT Luckily for me these pass and hopefully for you too.

We all have some grievence / blame Pred for adding to our misery, but you win, this week!

So you lost it!  Hope you have shaved the other side, saves on blow drying ect. Can you go to a hairdresser and have it evened up and get it coloured too? May as well enjoy it and Hair Grows Back..

My daughter was on Zoloff and had to reduce very slowly off. Have you been back to your Dr ( to show off your new hairstlyle) to TELL HIM?HER...   HOW YOU FEEL ????

Its been a couple of days since you posted, How are you now?
Love your Eleanor Rosevelt quote. It has cheered me up  quite a few times.
I started Methotrexate 2 days ago, also to get off Pred. Maybe you can too and we can compare how we are going.
Hope to hear from you soon, HUGS Lyn

Hi Bev, although I have rheumatoid arthritis rather than polymyalgia rheumatica, I can certain empathize with how you are feeling and understand that encouragement can be hard won in the 'real world'.

I can only echo what others have already said and send you my best wishes for better days, the joy of a new hairdo, the pleasures of moments of peace, and tranquility in life.

Cheers, Shug
