Smell | Arthritis Information

Can anyone besides me smell a flare coming on? I get this strange scent in my nose. Just curious.

Hi wendyr, I have not had this experience and am wondering if knowing that a flare is coming on provides a window of opportunity to curb it, restrain it, or prevent it with either a burst-pack or some other intervention?

OMG.. I get a odd scent!! I DO!! and it goes straight through my nostrils into my sinuses!! It's a strong sharp pungent scent.

I always felt there was a connection because I hadnt' "smelled it" in years before my huge flare in 07.......... and then several times after that.

I know how weird it seems...but for me.. yes, there is a scent in my memories that happens before I flare...

whoa.. i am so excited that I may not be the only one with this happening.

I can't smell a flare, but I CAN smell a migraine..

It's weird, I get this awful stench in my nose, like ..ick.. burning dog poop, or a combo of that and burning rubber..

When I get that smell I take tylenol extra strength allergy sinus tablets.. Funny when I get the warning that particular med can prevent the attack

so I bet that you could take a small pred burst, instead of the bigger one you would need when the flare is full blown..

Never thought about it that way. I always thought it was a sign of having a sezure when you smelled things that are not there. So I do not get sezures. So maybe a few times that is what was going on. If it ever happens again I will pay more attention. Last summer I had where I could constantly smell burning cigarettes,the dr could never figure out what was causing it, but the smell kept me going nuts for 4 months then it disipated for awhile. I do get it still every so often but the dr still can't figure out what causes. I had a cat scan and everything I think it may be due to stress and being over tired at times. what soothes me though, is the smell of cinnamon I get the cinammon and cloves oil and will use that in my oil burner and it will relax me. I tried keeping a diary when the horrilbe smell comes on to see if it comes up before a flare up but it didn't always signal a flare up. I just dread it when that smell comes along. meme
