Arthritis in Thumb? Anyone Else? | Arthritis Information

I have been having problems with my thumb for a few weeks, after hitting my elbow. Yesterday the doctor told me it is arthritis. I guess I am suprised that it can get so painful so quickly! It is only my thumb on one hand. It sometimes won't bend, other times it bends easily. Sometimes the knuckle 'clicks' and is jerky, not smooth. Now it is hurting pretty bad at the base.

Anyone else have anything like this? I am a 50 year old female. Any info will be appreciated!
An xray showed no bone changes.
Hello and welcome. As there are literally hundreds of conditions that are called "arthritis". Did your physician offer any specifics?

In the past I have had difficulty with both thumbs, I have rheumatoid arthritis with erosions and found my best relief from adequate bracing and learning to use my hands differently to prevent pressure and pain in the joints. I highly recommend seeing a hand therapist for evaluation and treatment

Best wishes, Shug
Well all the doctor said was 'it is arthritis' and even though I felt that it had something to do with my elbow, she would only xray my hand.
I just didn't know that arthritis could come on so quickly!
I have to go out of town and when I get back, I may go back to the doctor and get her to give me some more info.
